New hidden screens! I think!!!

dont kill me if im wrong, or if its been posted before, but i did a search on this site before posting this, and didnt find anything. Check it out.

When in the global screen, instead of pressing shift+global while on the global tab, switch to the memory tab, and now press shift+global. This will bring ypu to some sort of monitoring screen, where there is a level for the cpu usage, as well as a bunch of other nu,bers with levels (i have no clue what they mean, but im snoopin around to try and figure it out). Now for the cool stuff. In this screen you can:

A: turn off, and on the debug mode (not sure for what)
B: switch the fan speed to fast (it should be set to slow
when you first enter the screen)
C: Turn on and off the scsi terminator (you guys should understand
the reasons for that)
D: Check the system font size/style (i think you can change it
but i havent figured that out yet)

F: Storage (WARNING!!! YOU CAN AND WILL LOSE EVERYTHING
ON YOUR HARD DRIVE IF YOU DONT READ THE SCREEN
FIRST. IF YOU WISH TO POKE AROUND WITH THIS
FEATURE, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKUPS, AND READ
THE SCREEN FIRST!!!!! dO NOT PRESS THE START
BUTTON (F6).)

Sorry for yelling, but I dont want you guys to lose any of
your work. This scren lets you test the hardware of
storage. Thats what it says, and it also says that after
you complete the test, in order to use the hdd with the
4000 again, it must be formated, and you will lose all data.
You can exit this screen by pressing the global button
again. (WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PRESS THE START
BUTTON ON THE BOTTEM RIGHT OF THE SCREEN
WHEN VIEWING THIS WINDOW "F6")

And also, when in the global screen, press the configuration tab. once in this window, press shift+global and you can see whats in the flash memory. It will tell you what os you are using, and also, the boot signature.

All of this was found using os 1.70. I have'nt tried this with any older os's, or 1.71 yet. I'm still poking around to see if i missed anything. Will post anything i find under this topic.

i would assume they fall under the category af easter egg.

I think these are private debug/monitoring screens used by the developers. I'm running v1.71 and they're here as well.

Btw, I didn't know about the Shift+Global combo at all, even in the main Global page. I hope this is (was) not a public combo, because it's very easy then to make the mistake and press it when in the memory tab and completely trash your storage. Ugh...

The numbers in the memory page are probably addresses of I/O areas in memory. Nice to have a CPU indicator, I should try it when playing a song. I have no idea yet what the other columns in that page represent. Maybe DMA channels, no idea really.

yeah I think it was Adrian who has posted this already a year or so ago... My fan has never run on FAST speed out of itself, so i guess I haven't been rocking long/hard enough yet! Still trying though...

i meant, some of you guys should know what thats for, because i dont. I understand scsi, but dont know what there would be to gain, by turning off the 4000's termination.

Regarding the font, it looked more like an ASCII table, so that the programmers can see what a character looks like on screen. I couldn't find a way to change the font shown. but I only tried very shortly.

i would be cool if you could change the font.

i didi run a sequence, and the cpu meter did change, along with some of the levels over the numbers. it was a simple sequence though, so ill try it out with something more intensive later.

Hi Retro, True. We never discussed the contents of these test screens. It's nice to think about the possible use they could have to us.

I think Rob is right about the font, it cannot be changed. I think it's stored somewhere with the OS.

I'd like to see what that CPU meter is doing in the Program pages in v1.70 when everything is slowing down. And then compare it with v1.71.

i also found that the jog wheel puts a decent amount of strain on the cpu when you turn it real fast. I wonder how much strain is put on the cpu if you make wack beats????
