60 is candy...but 3k's are nice too. I'ma start a thread praising the 3k...it pretty much the same thing as the 60.

"Linn calls us MPC60ists"

:D He says MPCists on the 3K's manual 8) ... yeah like INSTRUMENTists...

...yeah.... we're MP(all models)Cists 8) !!!

2 highlife: AFA nostalgia, I will never ever go for a 60/3K.
I will go for dem if my sound really need dem... cuz when (i.e) "Sexual Healing" cames out back den you were crazy bout the drum pattern and so, but wasn't able (at this time) to say it's an 808...
I'm a nowaday producer looking to the future.
I own an SP for 12bit, Drmz only, just like a Chief need salt & pepper... not because of nostalgia...

Sure one can use compuer sequencers, but not all tools are equal, and not all people like using the same tools.

3k's are dope for sure.

Why you prefer the 60 personally? I've seen you give the 3000 a positive nod on at least a few occasions, but you refer to yourself as a dedicated 60 user. Is the 12-bit with the orig. Roger Linn circuitry that much more bangin? Or is it just one of those somewhat unexplainable things that draws you in to the 60 more? Fill me in if you don't mind.

Mainly it's the panel, User interface, and the 12 bit, the 3000 is cool, but it is cramped, having the menu buttons way up on the right is a kludge to get it all to fit on the smaller machine.

The sound of the 60 is also really cool, I like it better than any 16 bit sound, and I only like some 12 bit sounds better, but not for everything.

It's a weird relationship that happens with all MPC and all gear really, it's just that the 60 really has gone above and beyond my experience of this with other gear. it reaches out to you and teaches you how to unclutter yourself and get on with the music.

I'm sure others feel it for all models, but the 60 really delievers this for me, and I think if other perceptive people mess with a 60 they'll feel it too.

reading this forum far the past year i've been seriously starting to lust for a 60... from all the stuff i've read and heard about the 60 i think it would be right up my alley. the main features that i use on the xl seem to be pretty easily done on it, and i'm a fast learner. i would probably get to use a friend's s950 with it as well. problem is there ain't not that many up here in finland, and getting it all the way from the us would be too risky.

i would kill for that armrest, since i'm always leaning against my mpc!

I'm just glad that the "so-called experts" who said all MPC are the same don't do heart transplants or test for HIV.
All the MPC have different processors, feature sets, and hardware.
The operate under differnt conditions and use differnt methods to accomplish the same task.
They do deliver varied performance, whether it's noticable is a different question.
The difference would show up moreso in it's interaction with other devices.
The simplistic specs quoted by Akai are just that, if they went into more detail it would become more obvious the variations going on.
Over the years Electronic Musician as well some other mags have published many artilces on the varying accurancy of both drum machines and hardware seq.
The findings they have reported say quite the opposite.
As far as not using a MPC because of what DAW's can do, that's fine.
I was impressed with the MPC style templates in PT, they can add a nice feel to rhythms, but if you actually compare it to a MPC doing the same thing it doesn't match a 60, 3000 or xl.
Still usable if you like it.
The hardware seq have the same principle as analog synths, their inaccuracy is actually what creates their individual personality.
Go get a Mac G3 BW and load OSX on it then load the same version on a G4MD then load the same version on a G5 and tell that a program runs the same in each of those environments.
It rwill run a may do all that it's supposed to do but with varying levels of proficiency.
That is pretty much what goes on with the seq in the MPC's.
To make it worse the 60exp seem to do a better job triggering external drums than a XL does with some rack samplers.
While the XL does better to do a better job triggering external drums on other rack samplers.
The variations do exist, maybe not noticable in all configs or setups but they are there.

Shhhhh, like I said in some other post, soon the 60 will go up higher in price when cats figure it ot and put 2 and 2 together. Its hard to explain why the 60 is dope, and I've never f*cked with any other Mpc. But dam, its cool cause it doesn't get in the way of your creativity, only adds to it. Besides, it looks dope too, I have yet to see any painted 60 that looks better than the original "look." Its like, turn it on, go to work on a beat and you just do your thing without thinking about doing it, if that makes sense????

Once you have intuitively worked out the 60's functions. aka pressing every button knowing its limitations and what it can do.

you can charge/rush/speed around the mpc 60 box w/o looking at the lcd screen. This is what i understand from ppl saying the buttons are not cramped.

i've just listened to the 3k 60 and the mv8000. the 3k sounded better than the mv in my opinion. I created some loops on the mv and on the 3k and the 3k sounded nicer. mv has more features etc and that is its selling point.

it is addicting to make drum breaks on this machine. making songs is a little bit more time consuming. aka you better know ure drum breaks and how to arrange them.

Right now I own a mpc1k, and I like it alot. But man I want to try out the 60 to get a feel for myself how good of a machine it is. From what I hear it sounds as if the mpc60 with the 3.10 os update is pretty much the same as the 3000. correct if I'm wrong.

Just out of interest.. How many freakin´ times have you said (typed) this?? ??? This stuff comes along every two weeks and every 60 user keeps saying the same stuff. (the 60 is grimey, the pads are better, it has a freakin armrest, everything is right there, no submenus.. blah blah.. ) But if people want any help, you bark like a little dog.
I mean, you stupid *ss! You even answered a guy who asks where he can buy MIDI cables?! WTF ?
Are you joking?

Ikke taking the piss!

yeah, I love the 60, I like helpin people, I am going for 60 poster boy, I'm even practicing my best N'Sync face pose!!

naw man, sometimes if I can help by typing two words I will, like in the midi cable post, all I said was Radio Shack IIRC. I like helpin cts with 60's cuz we are underdogs in general, and there is a lot overlooked in tha machine, hence why I like telling people about the upgrades, and about how kick ass the machine is. it's my way of paying back to the 60, and of course, keeping as many up and running and upgraded also helps protect them from being trashed, the more people know about them the less likely they will end up in landfill, which Has eaten many synths in the past due to fashion trends (lots of modular gear ended up trashed after digital synths took over, it's a sad thing either way).

Even if prices go High, it means someone who finds a jacked up one is more likely to spend the cash to fix it up to sell or keep. but if a working one is $200, who's gonna do that?
