importing loads of wav samples into the 2000xl...

Hi y'all

if i were to buy me an MPC 2000xl, id want to be able to use the MOUNTAINS of samples which ive collected over the years with it..

most of the samples are .wav or .aiff files. some are akai S3000 format, others ACID format.

How would i get them into my MPC. Can you daisy chain the MPC to a ZIP Drive and then on to a PC SCSI card and then use a program like ReCycle of Beat Creator or even Wavelab to transfer the files across as you need them??

You can use a zip on you p.c to save the sounds to.Then just walk 'em over to the mpc and load em up.You can use a zip/card reader on the mpc to open the files.

but can you 'daisy chain' the devices, ie have the pc linked to a zip linked to the MPC.

I remember with my old AKAI S2000 i could do that and then if i imported a file into recycle and chopped it up i could literally click "SEND" and it would go straight over to the S2000, i didnt even have to save to zip...

PLUS it was instantly mapped across my keyboard.
if i could do the same thing with the 2000xl except having them instantly mapped across the pads then wow! im in!!

Yeah you can daisy chain just make sure you set the i.d's accordingly and terminate the last drive in the chain.

and sending using recycle by hitting just "SEND" and then having all the slices mapped across the pads???

sorry but ive no way of getting near a 2kxl right now, so youre getting lembered with all these dumb questions

I'm not sure about that part.I use CEP.I have to save as wav.And then burn to disk and transfer via cd rom.But i don't really even do that because i'd rather just sample from vinyl or c.d.

quick question. you normally sample from vinyl or cd..
you mean from records, old tracks whatever right...

but if you just want raw beats, no music on top of it... i often use sample cds for that and then mess around with the beats / slices to get my own beats. dont u do that?? i'd find it hard to get all my beats from records etc cos there's usually music on top of em...
just trying to get a handle on how youre all using it yeah

With vinyl there are alot of open breaks where it just may be a trumpet or piano.I usually use those because i hate trying to filter sounds out. When you start to sample more and chop you'll find it easier to find a sound on an album.I gave up on those c.d.'s with wavs and all that because they were'nt as helpful as just diggin' for vinyl and experimenting.

The wav files must be 16 bit the MPC will not read 24 bit.

i go the cd option. as there are cheap.. do up heaps of kits and samplebanks, few mutli samples. fx folders and shit. ( cd-r unrealiable though so dont be afraid to burn multiple copies of each disk and stash away in the bookcase for backups.) save all my beat to zip disks as i go.

so basically saving stuff to... and moving from PC to 2000xl seems to be EZ peezy....

So, final question...

what has the MPC1000 got over the MPC 2000??? USB ok, but if you can transfer stuff real easy anyway... 96ppqn resoultion. doesnt the MPC 2000xl have that anyway...

sorry, just trying to decide which to get. its startuing to seem like the MPC 1k has no advantages other than the higher memory which i dont really care about...

a real easy way that i take my sounds from my computer to my mpc is through a stereo y cable mini male 2 qtr mono males all u have to do is go to the sample page of the mpc and play the sounds from your computer

That works also.That's how i used to do it before i got my table and vinyl.Every now and then though i find something in the millions of sounds i have so i burn a few disk and walk them over.When we move i'll probably get my wife another computer and use this one in my setup or laoptop.But the way you suggested definitely works.
