What I really like about the 1k is that it is so basic. i use my laptop to sample some sh*t, chop, make samples of soft synths and what ever I want to use. then load them onto the 1k. Cose its so basic i can really concentrate on gettin my beats to groove and swing. I only get to work with the samples I loaded and the few basic filter etc. I dont get distracted by 10000 of diffrent snares or kicks and filters i actually dont even wanna use. instead I can really concentrate on makin music. Thats what I got this bad boy for and I think its pretty damn tight.

best: convenience/ease of use. I can make good beats with just the small mpc hooked up to my turntable. Editing (chopping) on the 1k is a snap.

worst: no way to record in song mode

just wanna add one + feature i figured out last night. i was making a
beat and became really frustrated cause i couldn't get it to work
in a decent way. so i just tried and tried, recorded over 14 drum tracks
and played with the filters. what i was thinking all the time was "i wish i had
this and this effect, i wish i could edit this part etc". i knew i could do it on
my comp but i was just too lazy and tired at that point. so finally after
hours of padding i got the drum track down to fit the mood and i figured
something important. since the 1k is in a way just a basic music tool, you
have to make the best of what you got and you start to focus on much
more important things than if you had a dozen of effects and endless editing
capabilities. so it's like a turn back to basics , a turn back to making real
music. and if you really need those effects, you can add them when you
record to your comp. this machine is for making music, and i like it that
way.

yeah sometimes its good to have restraints. it makes you music more focused.

caps i think you can. on record there's mode, where you can select
stereo, mono L or mono R.

Now you're talking! I've got both and can't see myself getting either of them - together, they are a great combination.

- the sound. in my opinion it's lacking the warmth and somewhat the
punch. there's no point of recording a drum track without compression
cause it just wont rock and what i've heard, the 2k has better punch
even though it hasn't got a fitted compressor. i dont mind thou, i rock
the shiiiz out of this machine!

how much of this do you think is placebo effect? personally i really cannot hear a difference, when it's all said and done.

i witnessed a beat-off live beat tournament between an mpc1k guy and a 2k guy, and even though the 2k guy won because he was much better (had been producing for years longer than the former) the sound quality was jsut about exactly the same...they were doing live drums, too

i def know what you mean by that placebo-effect, but that's still the
conclusion i've come up with. actually im listening right now some local 2k
production and im pretty sure i cant re-create that sound. but like i said,
i dont mind, im fine with the sound im getting now and try to make the
best of it.

try EQ, bit crusher, and little bit of reverb with a lesser frequency response definately creates a VERY bassy sample.
