Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By quest5 Wed Apr 20, 2005 4:21 pm
Hi,
Im a recent user of the MPC4000 and live near London in the UK. I want to expand my 4K with the 8 analogue output board. Ive just been in touch with Turnkeys (large UK outlet) who have informed me that Akai have discontinued these boards and they no longer can get them. WOT!! Is this true? Are akai going down the pan?.. Why are they discontinuing the expansion boards for the 4000? Can somebody from Akai / user in the know please confirm/rubbish this?
Please somebody tell me there wrong.
cheers

have you tried getting in touch with arbiter....as far as i know they still distribute for akai over here.....wouldnt rely on turnkey for anything but overcharging.....

I've been waiting for my 8 out board in the US since last July. I just got word from SweetWater that mine is shipping this week...

They have just been extremely back ordered -

Actually I'm not even sure I want the board anymore ...as my work style on the 4K has steamlined without it.

Hi,
Just to round this thread off, for those who didnt know in the UK, Arbiter are no longer the distributer for akai stuff (expansion boards etc..). Newmark are now dealing with it-01252 341400. At Bebop mentioned above in the US, there is also a back log of orders here in the UK but Newmark assures me (us), that things will be running as normal soon. Turnkey (uk), were very wrong in informing me that akai had stopped making them.

ps.. Bebop, Funny you mentioned this. Im not sure if I want the expansion anymore. Ive been thinking about how to work with the akai well before I got one when their was no sigh of the outputs ever being available (streamlining has definately got something going for it. ;-).

For all those inquiring about this option in The States, the U.S. shipment of IB48P cards has finally arrived. Sweetwater sent mine out to me this morning. It's been on backorder for months and should be at my house by tomorrow afternoon. Gotta love it. 8)

About the workflow being streamlined without the 8-ouputs, i'm definitely feelin ya. They've already charged me and sent my board out by Fed Ex so, there's no way of me deciding otherwise. When things are on backorder for as long as this has been, you start to think it's never gonna happen and you find ways to get around the intial situation. Now i'm gonna have to get used to what it was, i wanted the output for in the first place. Not that i don't want it, i'm just used to doing without it. We'll see how things change up with the new options won't we...

I woke up to Fed Ex pounding on my door this past Monday. They delivered my board and once i opened the package, everything that i intially wanted it for came back to memory. Needless to say, i installed it right then and checked to see it show up in Global Mode but, I didn't get to use it until tonight. All i can say is FREEDOM - where have you been?

P.S. It says in the installation manual that you can't have both output boards installed at the same time. I've read different on this forum...i'm gonna go check the threads again.

Hiya Kid,
I think you can have all the expansions installed (spdif, adat + 8 analogue outs), all in one machine, BUT, you can only use a maximum of 10 outs at any time... Can you mix and match the outs ? say 6 analogues and 4 ADATS?

let us know
