i dont get it

2 stupid questions,i read the manual but i still doesnt get it.can somebody tell me what the note variation slider is for?

and whats it step editing? explain it simple,,i never used it when i make beats.

to my understanding, the note variation slider can quickly change the value of a sound's filter, decay, attack and most imp. in my opinion, the pitch. i've heard it can be similar to pitch control on a record player, but not quite. Just press shift and note and then assign a pad to the slider and play around. You can also set it so that u can change it's value "after" laying the note. Notice the difference between the note button being lit or unlit.

As far step editing, you can accurately pinpoint the positions of notes to the tic. U can use step editing to place you snare on "2" and "4" or rec your notes live then go back and edit something that is slightly off. You can also change each specific note's value for duration, decay, filter, tune, etc... I'm sure there is more but these are the basics. Play around w/ it.

step editing allows you to record/edit data that you wouldnt normally be able to access in basic modes
example when you hold the pad down you are actually assigning DURATION D (as in time you held down the pad) to the MPC sequence data..
If you have hi hats for example going through a sequence you can then go into STEP mode and edit all the notes to match D (Duration of notes etc,,)
this feature comes into play when using NOTE OFF which means you need to touch the pad to hear the sample and when you let go the sample stops
It is an essential feature that you use with complex arrangements if you get into full production on this machine.
Otherwise sometimes sequences "spill" into other sequences if you use breakbeats etc.. But with NOTE off and proper Duration of note assignments you can fix these problems

YOU CAN ALSO RECORD THESE CHANGES IN REAL TIME. SAY YOU WANTED TO FREAK THE FADER LIKE A DJ. YOU CAN DO THAT DURRING PLAYBACK AND RECORD MODE. USING THE NOTE REPEAT AND THE NOTE VARATION LIKE A MIXER FADER CAN YEILD SOME COLD AZ RESULTS .
