I turn the data wheel fast on my 60 but the data only changes at a few intervals at a time. The plus and minus buttons work faster. Is there a way that I could adjust this? or does it need a part to be replaced. :?

Is it broken? one click should mean 1 number change, if you spin it fast you can get like 50 inone go, is that what you are getting?

Thanks for the quick reply. :D If I turn the wheel very slowly, it will turn one digit per click. But if I speed up and turn the wheel fast, it would take a couple revoltutions to move 20 digits. I am a old s950/s1000 user and I like to fly with the wheel, so this is killing me. Please Advise

i took elmac's advice along time ago to start using the data buttons. it's so much quicker. just punch in your input and just use the data wheel to fine tune your settings. you begin to 'feel' what the settings should be for start/end points and simply enter in the value with the data buttons. try that out.

I'll need to check on my 60, but that may be normal operation, It doesn't sound like it's broken.

I actually been using it just like that. But when it comes time to chopping up samples its a problem. But I guess if it is a big costly repair job to fix, I might have to make due.

I don't think it's busted, just use the number pads for chopping.

Yo Dr. El

There is a problem. this is my second 60. My first one, which is so beat up ( yellow buttons and rust on the front) data wheel works fine. The faster you turn it, the faster the data changes. But this new one which looks showroom new , the wheel is the opposite. The fastest you turn the wheel, the slower the numbers change.

yo elmac, that one second 'nothing' sample you referred to back in that one thread, do you do that for everything you sample to avoid those clips/glitches you sometimes get at the beginning of your sample?

like last night i was using 16 levels and i noticed that when i recorded my 2 bar sequence (one bar at one note value and one bar at a higher note value) i would hear extra pieces of sound like clicking or something at each hit of the pad.

i would do 4 hits on the one pad and then like 8 or 12 quick hits on the higher pad and that whole sequence would sound OK while i was just hitting the pads to my already recorded drum sequence which was playing but when i recorded that sequence on playback it had these extra pieces of sound on each hit of the pad that i tapped out. it sounded like crap.

i believe my start/end points are correct but maybe i am just a couple clicks of the data wheel off for the start point.

but yeah, is that what that one second if silence trick is used for? for elimnating those types of extra 'noise?'

Nope, only for pasting into, then I delete it.

It sounds like your sample isn't chopped right, try pitching it way down and then cutting the start point from there.

Get a new data encoder, should not be to bad from VST.

then i can pitch back up, right? just pitch it down to get a more precise start point, huh?

this is referring to dude's data wheel problem, correct? not my start point question?

Yup, and Yup. That happens when you hijack a thread ;)

It may be the data wheel circuitry that's messed up, but more likely the data wheel.

It all Good Highlife.

But getting back to my problem. I just got this MPC 60 from Armen`s in New york a few days ago. The only reason I bought this one is because it was in mint condition. Nice blue screen, white buttons, real clean. The one that I been using prior to this purchase is as grimey as they come. Rust spots, yellow buttons, nicks, scratchs, Fading screen. The last owner keep it in the gargage with no cover from the elements. But the dam thing works, and works well. I guess I should take this new one back, If I can`t adjust this thing. But Dam isnt she pretty............ :(

dynasty, it doesn't really sound like it is all that bad.

then again, we're not right there with you to experience the problem.

i don't know that i would take back a clean 60 just because it takes a little longer to move the data input.

everything else is working properly, though?

i'd say ditch the grimey one and maybe alls you need is that part that elmac suggested. if it's like a $25 fix then i'd go ahead and try it and keep the clean one.
