How do you layer two kicks on the MPC4K?

What are the steps in merging two sounds (layering a mid-kick and a 808 base drum)? I have read about it but never tried. I normally just search through my crates until I find something close than eq. But, maybe layering is a lot quicker.

i dont fully understand your question here. but go into program window, go to the zone page and select your kick then add a second kick into the second zone. you can layer 4 sounds. if 4 zones is not enough, you can merge 2 sounds in the sample section

If you hearing weird frequencies when layering the two, be sure to employ the different filters
on the 4000 to fine tune the layering of the two samples. Actually, you should be able to do this in the Zone page as well

assign 2 different drumz to 2 different pads. record them both at a time. play your sh!t, go to mixer and fuc wiv the volume 2 get the sound u want.

thats the way i do it, if thats wat layering is (i aint good with termings).

You can merge any many programs as you want with different settings on the drums. Or convert to keygroup program and assign to the same note with a separate filter in each. Or you can use INT A and play as many programs as you want on the same pad in each. Like ikkie said to you can merge two samples using the merge edit and you can use zones in one program.

You can reverse a sample then edit the phase. If that is what you mean.

Thanks for replying Adrian. How do you edit a samples phase? What I meant was that when, for instance, you mic up a snare with two mic's (top and tail), you have to put one of the mic signals out of phase by a 180 degrees to stop it comb-filtering the other. Can you do this on the 4k? Cheers.

I am not currently near my MPC you can adjust the phase using one of the LFO's, I think, it's somewhere in there.
