just installed a 100 mb internal. followed the tutors instructions to the t. comes up with "no floppy device." so i got a new ide cable, sposed to be all fast and ish, no dice. tried a different zip, no dice. the first zip i bought off ebay and is sposed to be in "perfect working order." the second one i tried i found in an old computer at work that nobody was using. they both power up fine and take and eject disks with no problem, but they dont show up. could i just have two dead zip drives in my hands? i pushed on the cable until i thought the mother board was gonna break, so i dont think that is the problem, and i also tried several different configurations with the jumpers making it a slave, a master, blah blah blah.

i think my drives are just dead but does any one have any thoughts as to a solution before i chuck em an get another?

well i thought i might post on my success with my internal zip. i tried a third one and it worked. did the same exact thing i was doing before, just this one worked. now heres the kicker. i put the one that wasnt working in to the pc i stole the now working one from. that one works in the pc!!??? i dont know. hopefully some will learn from my experience and might check into the zip drive more carefully and find out which one will definitely work in the mpc.

" put the one that wasnt working in to the pc i stole the now working one from. that one works in the pc!!"

That would certainly be news. Are the drives identical?

i think the new one is a different brand. i will check to see what brand later. i got so excited about the fact that this one is working that a closed it up and started loading beats. i want to check it out more though to help others in the future. will post more as i find out.

one more time on this topic. just trying to help out others in the future. all three drives had the iomega label on them so i am at a loss as to why the last one worked and the other two did not. just be cognizant of this when looking into internal zip drives.
