Slicing & Sequence nightmare

hey all !

i dug into the slice and generate sequence feature but some how i just can't get my sequence to match the right tempo of my sliced loop !

i've made some research on the subject and i know that blue haze posted some tips about how to select Beat instead of trim end in the trim page but i still can't get it.

what if you don't know the tempo of your loop you still can give the number of beat but i guess the mpc has to have an indication of what the tempo is in order to create a matching sequence.

is there an expert in the house ? maybe actuel ? blue haze again ?

I don't have the MPC in front of me, but from my memory, here is what I do:


1. Verify that the sample is cut and trimmed properly.

2. Turn off LOOP

3. In Trim/Loop change END to BEAT

4. In the BEAT value field, select the number of beats your loop has. This will calculate the
BPM for you.

5. Go to REGION soft page

6. Change END to BEAT, and verify or adjust so that it has the correct number of beats.

7. Scroll down to Regions, hit Window Key and select how many slices you want your sample to have. I usually select 16 or 32 depending on how long the loop is.

8. Select the Edit soft key

9. Scroll to Slice

10. Have it create a track in the sequence that you are adding it to.

11. Enjoy...



That should be the correct steps. I don't think I'm missing anything, but I'm sure there will be plenty of people to correct, if so..

The thing is that in the trim window the mpc doesn't calculate the bpm for me when i enter the number of beat !

It seems to be on 120 by default, and let say that my loop is 100bpm 4beats if i enter 4 in the beat field it's going to set the trim end point so it matches the lenght of what should a 120bpm loop be. do you see what i mean ?

I still can roughly guess what the tempo would be and eventually set it correctly but it's not really a straightforward process, i think i'm doing something wrong but at this stage i just don't know what !

it is working perfectly though when you know the bmp of your loop the trick seems to be when you don't know this bloody tempo !

When you set the end point to beats, you only need to change the bpms till it is lined up with 4 beats. What I mean is you never change the beats window just the bpms window only. In your case at the default the bpm is 120 and beats may be 16 beats. All you have to do is change the bpms down and every now and then move the cursor to beats to see the beats change number(don`t touch it though)move back to bpms and keep changing till it is set at 4 beats and then you will have the right bpms.

Or the fastest way is to go straight to region page hit the bpm page button turn the beats to 4 and you will have the bpms too.

i was so used to see recycle calculating the BPM automaticaly when you set the number of beat that i totaly oculted doing it the other way around !
