SCSI not ready = big problem

anyone ever get this message? i bought a zip drive not too long ago it did work at first but lately when i try to load something my mpc tells me that the scsi is not ready. basically i can't load any of my samples.

Someone else had this problem a few days ago.But anyway,whatever scsi i.d. you have it on scroll to it.If it says not ready go up to 7 then come back down.

i tried that. i tried switching the temination on both 5 and 6, neither on them got a response. appreciate the reply

patience- scsi not ready what does that tell ya? not that its not present but not ready to be accessed-

of course if you are getting this message anytime after say 5 mins after power up try something else...i always get the message when i don't wait for the drive to boot up or if i have it parralleled to my pc and the pc is booting too..

nowt to do with scis id: that would say no device present if he was using the wrong scsi id..

Try turning on the MPC, let it go through the load cycle and then turn on the ZIP..... that has worked for me in the past.

tell me this though, what's the reason behind the long wait?
my first zip which passed away about 2 months ago (God bless her soul)
booted up just fine and i never got that scsi not ready message.
but for now i'll be patient and follow yall's advice. thanks for the posts.

i droped my drive last night and when i turned it all back on i got the same message

when i loaded the disk into one of my other drives it made a lot more noise than the one i droped
basically the dropped one was not reading the disk properly ( i think)

so i took it apart and put it back together again and it all works again

strange thing scsi plays up all the time with me

I'm trying to use my MCP 2000 after not for a long time. I get the dreaded "SCSI not ready" when I try to load the zip drive. I have a lot of saved sequences on the disk.

How does one change the ID? I think mine is set on 5.

Is my device broken? Would changing disks work?

same thing happened to me once.. it turned out that the switch on the back of the drive had somehow gotten in the wrong position. don't know how/why, i hadn't touched it.

I'll check the switches. I think they are "down" (don't have it in front of me now).

It looks like the scsi is simply broken. A friend has a spare - they don't make them anymore; all are usb or firewire now.

fainally got a zip drive (i know, i know) but i kept getting the same message, but after i scrolled to another chanel it went away

yeah just highlight the channel and scroll off it and scoll back on it
