I posted this on newbies forum but got no bites...

The MPC 1000 has he USB link...

it reads wavs.

so why is the aksys program only usable with the Z4/Z8 and the MPC4000.

i remember with my z8 i could send a sample to wavelab in the PC an edit it on the fly with aksys . it was great!! something the MPC1000 could really do with aswell, given its lack of onbopard editing...

so how come you cant use aksys?? purely a marketing decision or is there a technical reason...

I agree this would be cool. Save me having several bits of software to do the same job on different machines.

Nothing for stuff in memory. For stuff on the CF card all you need is a USB connection and a windows OS that supprts USB (Win95se onwards) and MacOS/OSx not sure.

so how does it work...

you use some other software to send files to/from the PC??

whats it called?? Is it free?

Then you take those .wavs and edit them or use them in whatever program you like and when youre done send them back?

sounds ok, but not nearly as slick as ak.sys.

i can remember with my 15 yr old AKAI S2000, i could chop a loop in recycle , hit send and it would fly over to the S2000 immediately via SCSI, keymapped across the board and everything. so what happened progress??!!! now you have to do it all manually.

still. Maybe it still doesnt take to long , or does it??
why are so many people complaining about no timestretch if you can do it on the PC?? is it a pain to do it that way? they always said there was no timestretch right??...

cheers

It's called Windows explorer. When you connect your MPC to your PC by USB, press mode, pad 2 (load), then F4 (USB), the CF card in your MPC1K will show up in Windows explorer as a drive on your PC, and you can move stuff backwards and forwards between your PC and the MPC. Page 85 in the manual.

do what i did. months before i got my mpc i downloaded the full manual from akai's website and read it cover to cover (sort of speak) over and over again. by the time i got my mpc, i knew it like the back of my hand.

With regards to the Recycle and AKAI2000 sample thing, I remember them dayz i used to do that with my old 3000, but that was in the scsi dayz, now its about USB and manually chopping up in recycle still but no SEND feature this time. its pain, but akai have a problem with compbatibilty its like they dont want u to have it all. anyway go buy the damn thing and stop asking questions.

"why doesn't the MPC 1000 work with ak.sys??? "

$$$$$$$

Building a backend inside the sampler is quite expensive. It has nothing to do with compatibility but rather the desire to implement such a feature in THE budget piece in your product line. It's like asking "Why doesn't a Yamaha PSR have a touch screen?". It could be done, but...

Frankly, at this point the features in the MPC1000 are so few that it seems sort of pointless to build a software front-end for, what, 6 parameters for each sample?

I have actually stopped using samples in the MPC1000 completely and just use the sequencer (It's currently driving an S5000 for live gigs). The MPC1000 has to be the nearly the most watered-down-featureless sampler engine, only slightly beating out the S20/Remix16.

hi mpc3000

well aksys could provide filter selection, change of parametwrs (cutoff res, sttack decay blah blah...) and then THE most important thing I find with aksys is the way you can double click on a sample and it will open in the wave editor of your choice. tehn you edit and click save and it goes back to the sampler straight away... f*n great! :D. probably that alone would be enuff....

anyway, no big deal here. i just wondered why the 1k hadnt got that since it has the USB etc... relax everyone! (that includes you mr pen(is)fold ;))
he he

thanks
