Thes One offers the following Akai MPC 3000 sampling tip: "Find the program sounds page, take a drum loop and chop it into two pieces on two different pads. Start with the kick, and make sure the start point is truncated really tight. Then, make another start point truncated at the beginning of the snare. Set them to cut off so that each pad number cuts the other off. You'll end up with all of the filler at the end of the samples.

go to whatever track that sound is on. hit "erase" a screen will pop up, then hit the pad that contains that sound and hit "do it" and it's erased. Or while the sequence is playing, be on the track that contains the sound that you want to erase and hold down the erase button and then hold down the pad that contains the sound you want to erase.

I know how to do this, but I have a hard time actually messing with this function for the swing so sometimes I just turn off the timing or, I Shift the timing to later or 70 on the swing. Peace.

here i go....


my tip: when doing complicated drum patterns using the kick...i rehearse the pattern with two hands.. one for the kick... the other hand for the snare... doing complicated patterns is easier with two hands for me...

moving along... knowing that its best to record the kick and snare on their own tracks..... this is what i do....

when i comes to recording.... that complicated pattern.... if i want to lace the kick part... i would use both hands like i did in the rehearsal BUT.... instead of my right hand tapping the snare pad.... MY RIGHT HAND WOULD TAP SOMEWHERE ON THE MPC METAL COVERING... for example, my right hand would tap somewhere near the rec gain and master gain knobs... while my left hand taps the kick drum pad... since for that track... thats what i want to record...

yea i do that sometimes too. lately though, when I play the kick and snare with both hands, ill go ahead and record both on one track. I can still seperate because of my 8 outs. just send the kick to one channel and my snare to another. then i can just mute each from my mixer. but yea i feel you..

my tip: find a nice shaker and turn to 16 level-velocity. turn timing off and play your shakers that way. may sound like a simple technique, but you can get a really nice groove that way

Thats a rookie mistake...

Ive noticed alot of people start to do this after they get to a certain point in their production careers (Myself in included). And then u find better ways to quantise where it sounds more realistic.
