what up guys
i 'm a delema here, i 'm trying to produce a track with a bucnh of kuts and sht like dj format, coldkuts, steinski more aless on that type sht,i have my own technique where i record snippets and macth a beat over them but it's not sounding like i want ,
has anyof you made tracks like this and if so what ,or how did you go about it, any help or ideas to improve on my track is appreciated

I know the old Double D & Steinski & early Coldcut stuff was done on multitrack tape. Are you using any form of multitrack or are you triggering samples with the MPC?
What was special about these, & the originator "The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel" was that it was just quick-cutting between records. The sound for a few bars was just one record & then for the next few bars was just another one. It wasn't the records layed over another beat so maybe that is how you need to approach this.

Do you remember those annual "Bits & Pieces" records that used to come out of New York in the mid '80s? They were cut-ups of all that year's club hits, so it was all stuff like Colonel Abrams, Visual, D-train & Rockers Revenge with more commercial stuff like the bass line from "Bille Jean". I loved those.

yeah i hear you i got a bunch of those mixes, maybe i was wrong to say those guys because yeah i ahve done mixes like those, actually thats how mine turn out but i'm looking more along the lines of faster cuts ;
like uumm, like this track i kno its mostly scratching but i'm thinking more like cuts or snippets of other records and sht

I'd try to multi track. It can be done on the mpc, but it's much harder.

thats what i do i keep forgetting to say that!!

so this is what i get they multi track then put a beat over it , i dont get the concept it sounds so phucken clean and tight, when i do it it sounds sloppy
what am i doin wrong here.

Maybe severe eq is needed. If your beat that runs through the track is thumping nicely cut out all the bass in what you are laying over it.

sound good yeah thats more or less what i'm trying to get but with just cuts maybe some scratching sounds like you had that cheif rocka thro the hole thing that was your bass and you just edited kuts acd scratches right,
you used CEP i see how many tracks you use

You could try just laying down a simple looped beat on your multi track for like 5 minutes - just as a template.

Then do all your cuts, and snippets, and parts of other beats on top of it, on other tracks......with everything beat matched to your template beat.

Then once you've overdubbed all over the place, just take away that original looped beat (mute it) - and you'll be left with your collage stuff, but it will all be tight and in time.

Then if there are still any "holes", you can fill them in with other beats or more scratching or whatever.

yeh itchyvinyl's got it. get a decent multitracker load up some stabs/vocals and fx on the mpc. get a beat looping and just keep over dubbing heaps of shit in and out. dont be afraid to use heaps of tracks. and try to keep most elements on discrete tracks.

i got a VS880 i tried it like this before, but this time i will take out the beat like your saying ,i didnt do that ,
and your saying tigger samples with the mpc, damn thats alot of sampling.
