Iam planing to buy MPC1k. But still researching about features that it have. So I have few questions:

1.Can I use velocity of pads to control something else than volume of samples (filters, decay....)

2.And what about aftertouch ? In manual I havent found any word about that. What can I control with aftertouch ?

Thanks

for as long as I have been using mpc's the pad only work as triggering assigned sounds or midi notes, they are touch sensitive in terms of the hard u hit the louder the sound, the after touch thing I'm not sure what u mean? is this like same like sustain on a piano? or how u left go of the pad will also result in how the sound fades out?

probably the latter, if so u can use the 'decay' in the program mode, or uniquely in step edit to that specific sound. This i find most useful for it has such a better effect for some reason.

no, no 'velocity to' on the 1k. I really hope they implement velocity to sample start position soon though (via Q-Links) as this is the ultimate freak out feature for a sampler!

you can control the decay and filters using the Q-Link sliders, though they don't control these in real-time, but register where the slider is before it plays the sample and then applies the relevant setting.

1: Velocity can only control volume in Mpc1k.

2: You can notice/use aftertouch with the note repeat thing.
Press note repeat during play/rec/overdub and press the pad.
Without releasing pad you can increase/decrease volume by pressing harder/softer.

you mean you cant apply a filtersweep in realtime on the MPC1000??

or do you mean just with the Q-link you cant.

surely you can take for example a loop and using a midi CC controller connected to the 1k, change filter cutoff as teh loop plays, giving you a realtime sweep effect??

You can't do sweeping in long or loop samples only in short samples sequenced repeatedly.

This is not a real-time filter.
The filter cutoff info is set right before the note so if you change cutoff value during a sample playback the sound won't change.

It's a chame but...

...THAT'S LIFE!!!

It can record realtime filter sweeps from ext. gear.

nah it's not too bad.

realtime filtersweeps could always easily be implemented in an upgrade

And ability to route velocity of pads to filter cutoff probably too. :D

I don't think real time filters will be available in upgrades, it's a very different approach than filters in other samplers, I don't think even the 4000 has real time fitlers, does it?

enough talk about UPGRADES, if they come they come till then leave it alone.
1. Help me understand exactly what u mean by real time filter?
what exactly are u trying to achieve?

Velocity can definitely be used for more than volume. Watch out for answers on this site...

Things velocity can do:
1) Control volume (page 59)
2) Switch between samples (page 60)
3) Control cutoff frequency of both filter one and filter two (page 64)
