Need your help for my mpc1000 -> mpc4000 converter

Hi folks, first post on this forum for me. (I'm an mpc4000 regular).

I'm writing a converter so that I can read mpc1000 programs with my mpc4000. It's nearly finished, but I have a problem with the mapping of samples to pads on the mpc1000. Since I don't own an mpc1000, I'm asking for one of you to help me out here.

I'd like to know which pads trigger which sounds in the KOTW TR808 kit, available here: http://www.akaipro.com/MPCKOTW/TR808_KIT.zip

A simple list like below would do.
pad1 : snare
pad2: kick
etc.

I thought something was wrong in my converter, but it seems that the sound-to-pad mapping is totally different in the mpc1000.

Will this program allow the 4000 to read 1000 programs, sequence data, and samples? I would pay for this if so.

The converter I'm writing allows me to load an mpc1000 program+samples in the mpc4000. This is done by converting the mpc1000 program into an S5000 program (info on both formats available on the net). The mpc4000 reads S5000 programs just fine.

I've already been able to read a converted mpc1000 program with the mpc4000 and play the samples. There are still some issues, but most of them are solved now. Stuff like filter settings will always be a little problematic though, since the mpc1000, S5000 and mpc4000 have different hardware.

I think the mpc4000 can already read the mpc1000 MIDI data, either the .ALL file or at least .MID files generated by the mpc1000.

When the converter is ready, it will be made available for FREE. It's very simple, no GUI, just a command that you point to an mpc1000 .PGM file. It will create a .APK (S5000 program) file with the same name in the same directory.

My version runs on Linux. We will have to find someone who compiles it for Windows so that the windows guys can have it too. The windows port should be very simple. A Mac port will be a little more work, but still doable.

Damn impressive! Now do you think its possible to make a 2000 to 1000 project converter?

i cant remember the site but there is source code available for 1000pgms its on there somewhere. better still we could send a a 1000pgm file and u could decompile it and work it out for ya self.

The mpc1000 reference manual (page 92) says the 1k can read mpc2000xl sequence, wave and program files. Is that what you're looking for?

I got the info I used to read mpc1000 program files from this site:
http://ieee.usask.ca/members/snorum/pgm/. And it worked perfectly.

I've got, say, 95% of the mpc1000 features covered now, I *am* already playing mpc1000 programs on the mpc4000. All I need to do now is some fine tuning, mostly filter stuff and modulation. The first version of the converter will probably be a little rough in that area, but future releases will improve no doubt.

Problem here is that filters on the mpc1000 and mpc4000 are simply different, and the S5000 format I use for the conversion only supports a single filter while the 1k has two (the 4k has three).

mate, you know what, another bloke a while ago started something the same as u then disappeared, i asked him if he could look into converting not just pgms but, APS & ALL files as well. so that I can take my 2000 & 2000XL files to my 1000 without having to load them back into my 2000XL and re save them as seperate PGMS' and MIDI files.

If u can pull this off I would be glad to contribute funds to the project.

I'm not sure if this will help but i discovered a program called "awave audio" that converts batch snd files into wav files. this is still a 2 step process but this combined with bluebox will get you sounds into the 1000. Then its a case of sequence data which can be midi. hope this helps.


I just got a 2000 classic and coming from 1000 to finally use a 2000 i must say the 2000 doesnt stand up to the 1000 at all!

What is this Bluebox app? And links?

Bluebox is a mpc1000 program creator.

i got awave mate its works as far as pgms. which is not what i need.
i need a soft that does ALL and APS files. no such prog exists at the moment.

also u dont need to combine it with bluebox cause version 9.2 has 1000 pgm compatability
