how to get that hard hitting reggae(not dancehall) bass?

hey, I heard that "out in da streets, they call it murdaaaaaaa" track on the radio the other night. The bass on that track is so lovely. How does one go about getting a bass to sound like that. I know many of you will say that in reggae they use bass guitars. But what synth can acquire that sound? I was playing with the synths(triton, mo phatt, and motif) at the local studio and I couldn't find anything that deep.hard hitting/apparent. Sorry, I am just a fiend for bass I guess. any help is appreciated fellas.

I don't know the track, but for reggae bass you have to experiment with eq.
Cut everythin above 1 khz and boost in the 100 Hz area.

Hit up the Bass thread on that site. Tried that basic sine or square wave sh*t on the 1000 with the low pass filter and it shakes sh*t off the walls!

I play a little bass. What most reggae bassists will do is cut most of the highs and mids on the amp to get that very deep, round bass you hear on their records.

If you're using samples, use EQ to cut the highs & mids. If you're going to use a synth, start with the electric bass patches and adjust the EQ the same way.

I've been bangin this track for the past couple of days, this ish is tight.

As for the bass, I'd try startin with a square wave, adjusting the resonance and filter, then eqing, adjust the release to about 600ms and maybe take a lil off the attack.

For reggae bass u gotta know about the Bass.....

When they use a bass in reggae I mean a real bass the main thing people dont understand is that..

Most bass players play with Round strings... All REGGAE player play with FLAT wound strings...Its makes the sound that much better...

An as for the synth sounding basses they usually always run there basses through a bass cab and mic it and add that to the mix

Been playing bass for 14 years, (just sayin) and yes very old dead flatrounds are the way to go, No treble ,mid's 12o'clock and bass to 11.
