taught myself a bunch of stuff, took a class at the cc, interned, work for free, learned how to shmooze my way into the right place at the right time. know what i mean? i was trying to be an engineer that works on music all the time, but i am happier doing what i do. that way i dont really get too burned out at work and i can still come home and work on my stuff. plus i learn a lot at work which translates right to my crib. i still get to do some music at work, so it is a nice balance. but the main thing is i get to work on sweet gear, which is definitely my vice. i love gear.

Thanks

im one of these. it means you get underpaid to do the impossible in a ridiculous amount of time, which usually means resorting to the same industry standard sample banks and dreaming of a deadline that wasnt "last week" and a budget that wasnt "twice over".
but all jokes aside, as mesh could relate, its a fulfilling job and one you must understand is demanding and recieves no glory besides the subtle respect of your peers and the knowledge that youve done a good job!
the REAL enjoyable stuff is when you get "out there" requests from clients like "something that sounds purple" to quote a famous line, or "the sound of a spaceship being sucked into a black hole".. thats the creative joys.
boring stuff is sound-spots (ie jingles) and batch editting and all the shit kicker stuff.
for some inspiration, so a search on the sound design behind Matrix Reloaded. here in australia a local audio engineering mag did a special on it.... they went overboard getting those sounds! just ONE of those flying octopus style machines had over 100 pro-tools midi cues and sound sources. f.u.c.k!
