If I get an MPC what else will I need to make sick beats?

I wanna start producing and am trying to decide between a getting a mac and logic,cubass or reason or getting a MPC and sound module etc...
Any advice would be helpfull safe. PS. I want to make hip hop

If it was me just starting off I would get the clearest samples I could find for the MPC first off all. There are some good sample cd's/sets on this site available for purchase you might wanna check out. MPC2kxl is a good cost effective choice.

you betcha. Nice to other ish though ie. Synths, ton-o-records, live instruments, compressors, effects(other than the weak ass eb 16). Add more

imo, u can't do much with just an MPC. What's going to be your sound source? i myself have just the 2kxl, with a PC and a gang of software and i feel that i am lacking so much. i can make some alright stuff, but for the phenom. stuff i could use a turntable, mixer and keyboard. Oh and the EB16. You can get away with just the MPC, it's a good centerpiece, but it's not a complete studio.

I agree with Speek and SirPrize. The MPC alone is great but it needs help for much bigger and ambitious productions. IMO the eb16 leaves much to be desired but it's better than nothing and actually helps with certain sounds/effects. If I didn't have a keyboard already and I didn't have much money to spend I would go with MIDI keyboard Oxygen 8 and connect it to the MPC.

MPC2kxl and PC are a good combination. That's what I use.

I'm going to get the 2kxl and I've also heard a lot about the mo phatt sound module Any word on that?. I've also got decks and a stack of vinyl is it easy to sample from them?

What programme do you use on the PC?

i got the mp7 [synth-workstation]
and it has all the mo phatt sounds too.
a 2000xl
a nice old eq.
a ensoniq esq1 [vintage [meaning old as f*ck..lol] analog/digi synth]
two mixers...turntables
three mics
ALL kinda records...

i really couldnt ask for more....well yes i could but.
what im messing with has ENDLESS possibilities...
seriously i got my EQ today though and OH MY GOD!.
i recommend a EQ for ANYONE who samples.
ILL. it changed everything drastically.

mpc [MAX IT OUT. 32 mg memory...zip drive 8 outs.]
midi cords...
rca ect.
mic.
and you are set.
im being real with ya man....that can make you ALOT more than
say a triton and mpc or any b.s like that.
i sample alot but i use my synths more often and with midi
and effects/filters off both units + mpc i am always learning new sh*t

I have that oxygen keyboard..and i enjoy using it. But I honestly just opened the box, didnt read the manual, and subsequently only use it with the MPC's AUTO program assignment, just to play out notes i sample,. make basslines, etc. Anyone willing to offer a bit of advice on how else they use that oxygen8 midi keyboard? I haven't really figured out how to use the different knobs, and effects that the thing has.

Actually...FAT JON recently in an interview says he loves to travel with the oxygen keyboard, because he can "mix" music on the road. a fun portable toy.

every one has good points, but i would like to add my 2 cents, you can make sick ass beats with just an mpc. regardless of what others have said. if you are just starting off, the mpc is fantastic for getting going. especially if you already have a good selection of vinyl. dont get me wrong, the more you get into making beats, the more you will start to notice that you are lacking something. that something is professional mixing and processing. dont worry about that stuff right now. this is the advice i usually give to people who ask the same question and are thinking about being in the game awhile. hook the mpc 2000xl, learn how to use it real well. as you learn more you will be able to make your way into different aspects of the field. but the bottom line is, all you to get started is a turntable and an mpc.
