card reader installation success

Thanks to all the great info on here and mpc3000's card reader guide I managed to install a card reader with relative ease! So thanks !

I installed an addonics ultra digidrive - bundled with card adapter and also
an adapter to connect the card via USB to my computer.

Just like a few other people here i ran into a problem getting a full 40 pin ide cable - most are 39 pins - one is filled in. So for people installing readers make sure you get the real 40 pin ide cable.

were you replacing a zipdrive or a 3.5 floppy?

I replaced a floppy - so i had to make a new power connection. I got an ide power connector and joined it with the remaining power wire section of the original wire for the floppy. I used a junction to connect the wires, similar to a number of other people who have done zip and card reader installations.

Since you are the newest one to successfully do it, it's up to you to teach and spoonfeed the other 300 something newbies that will attempt and miserably fail (coming right back here to ask how and the info is in my link also which they failed to read AGAIN) to do it in the next week.

Good going with the install though.

Methodox: I just installed the SAME Addonics DigiDrive, and cannot get it to work! The power is getting to it and it shows signs of life, but MPC says "NO FLOPPY".

I tried all of the jumper settings too. I'm stumped. I am using OS 1.14.
Which MPC do you have and how did you get it working?
Anyone else?

That means the mpc is not detecting your drive. The most likely cause is the connection made by the ide cable. You may have installed the connector in reverse or it is a faulty cable. Also make sure you have pressed the cable in ALL the way and you are plugging the cable into the ide connector not the floppy connector - although that would be impossible. I recieved the same error initially and all I needed to do was push the cable in fully. I put OS 1.2 on my mpc before installation. Obviously I got an XL - it's near impossible to do this on a non-xl mpc.

near impossible? so, there is a chance of doing it ? what can i do with my non-xl mpc?

I mean near impossible to install an internal card reader - but of course anything that has scsi can work externally. Scsi card readers are unfortunately either expensive new or difficult to find second hand depending on where you live.
