Newb Pro Tools Tracking Question

Ok i juss got the Mbox PT LE and since it has no midi connection's whut would be the best way 2 track out from my mpc1k and roland fanthom..

with the click function i could time em pretty nice,but would still like 2 hear whut sum of you do or any tips.

you should look into buying a midi interface of some sort your going to want midi. That is your best option, until then you can record manually. Just a 4 bars of space at the beginning and have the MPC the master to your fantom and just record there. Can I ask you a question why did you get a MBOX with only 2 in when the MP has 6 outs and you have at least 4 on a fantom?

I'm sorry for my rant and raving, but I still don't know why people are buying MBOX's with only 2ins to be stuck tracking a beat all day.

If your hard up for cash check out the midi man ubo 1x1. Use that to midi sync (using mtc) pro tools to the mpc, that way you can track at least two tracks at a time and everything is synced up.
Well to tell you the truth that probably wasn't the best way to go because the mbox doesn't give you and room to grow. If you really can't afford at least a 002 rack it might have been a good idea to look for a 001 on ebay and upgrade to pro tools 6.4 for around the same cost as a mbox or maybe a little less. Digi doesn't suport the 001 anymore but its a solid piece nd would have given you plenty of in nd outs until you could upgrade. To me the only time the mbox is usefull is on the go like if you have to do some stuff on a laptop or go to somebody.Basically The thing is a big assed dongle to me

another thang is i got it mostly for vocals and mix's cus im worried about the quality of my vocals more,and they are ALOT better,lol but there are sum down like u said,so whut kinda of midi adapter thats compatiable with PT shoud i get? that u have heard good about? i got firewire on my comp too if that matters??

I just waited until I had enough money to get the digi 002 rack. Like was said earlier in the post...you have more outs on the mpc 1000 and the fantom so it makes sense to get your moneys worh and track with a device that allow you to utilize those outs. also....if you had something like the digi 002....you wouldn't need a midi interface. it already has midi unlike the mbox.

other than that...you do need a midi inteface. there's several brands out there and they are usually cheap ($30-$40). This way you can tack your stuff out in time more than 2 tracks at a time.

Now...the only problem might be your mpc 1000. i've heard (only heard) that the 1000 only has midi clock...not mtc (I don't know why akai did that). and pro tools only has mtc....not midi clock. so even with the midi interface....if it doesn't convert mtc into midi clock or vice versa....you're gonne be stuck still.

incorrect, PT use midi beat clock as well as MTC, get a midi interface and you'll be fine.

As for the limited in/out of the MBox, the most convenient way to set things up imo would be........

spdif out from either the MPC or Fantom and 1/4 stereo outs from the other, this way you dont have to reroute cables all day, you would just have to set the correct inputs in PT. I think this woulod be your best bet for now until you upgrade, it's a pain in the ass havin' to solo everything and record one track at a time but it'll get the job done for now

so if i got the midi adapter would it track everything separtly itself? or would i still have to solo tracks out?

all the midi interface will do is help you sync the MPC and PT so you can track out everything seperately but in time with each other. You will still have to solo each track as you record
