MPC60 advice..

I can get my hands on an MPC60 from a friend but I would like to know what you all think its worth...$ (what should i be paying for it)

the condition its in: floppy disk drive controller not working needs replacement. Os: the original.


from what i understand it needs the floppy to boot, i.e the OS is on it.

I got a SCSI HDD could I use that??? instead of the floppy drive???
would i need a scsi board for it??? what kinda cost$ am i looking at???

if youve been told the os is on a floppy and the mpc wont boot I wouldnt buy it at all.

Floppy drives can be pricey due 2 their age and resulting limited availability. I don't know how much that would cost 2 replace where u r. Checc route66studios

Never heard of a 60 booting up from a disk. I had the 2.0 OS and never had 2 boot up from a disk like the 2000. Considering the OS, u will *not* be able to connect an SCSI drive directly 2 the unit. I think OS 2.12 was the only OS that shipped with the SCSI interface. It should say what OS u r running when u turn the MPC60 on. Find out from the current owner. The SCSI will not work with any OS below 2.12

The MPC60 has an intuitive sequencer with the 12-bit crunch that heads like 4 those gritty samples. Just know what u r getting in2... the 3.1 upgrade is $100-$200 (worth every deutchmark), the SCSI board $300 and expanding the memory is another $100 (don't quote me on prices b/c they may be diff where u r). It's worth it once u take the plunge but the updates r necessary 2 make the machine competitve with what is out now. Uno

Yes, consider that to truly bring it back to life, you will need to spend about 450 for the upgrades alone, (OS and SCSI) but you don't need to do it all at once, the OS would be first at 200. THen, considering the floppy is broken, you'll need to fix that, might be easy, might be hard, probably easy, could be cheap if you follow the instructions posted here for the replacement floppy drive.

The OS is on ROMS in the machine, but the 60 can Boot from a floppy with a sys file on it (Thanks MPC3k's of wisdom ), but not the upgrade (good luck getting that on a floppy).

it should boot up fine, you can then sample something and play with it, but if the floppy is toast you may not be able to save, or load. Test it out, see how bad it is, but tell him about all the cash you'll have to shell out to get it working again and upgraded, if he isn't gonna spend it then maybe he should just give it to you to sink the money into. It would be worth it at the end, especially if the machine is in good shape.

can i install os 3.11? can the 60 have the same os as the 3k?

nah man , it doesn't boot from floppy, it book from the roms, if it doesn't boot at all without a disk, it's got problems, you could try the New OS, but it's better to send it to a tech and have him fix it up, proably cheaper than getting the OS upgrade and it not fixin it.
