I'm running out space made quick on my 120gig drive. Basicly I have most of my Akai sample library loaded up and I still have quite a few discs to go but I only have about 10 gigs free on ther drive. I was thinking about taking out the CDRW drive and replacing it with another 120gb drive and just use my USB CD burner when needed.

Has anyone else gone that route yet or thinking about it?

You got a USB port. D/L to a PC and burn it to a DVD-RW for back up. It'll free up hard drive space.
Or can't you do that? I don't have a 4K.

Yes, you can either to your computer hd aka dvd disk or a firewire on the computer. A hella of lot of options. Thanks for your help. :D

If you use a usb hard drive you can use a bigger disk. say 250gb or bigger. You could also dump the cdrw and put an additional 120gb hard drive inside..

do what feels right.

you could install an internal jaz drive, and brak your liraries up into 1 or 2 gb sections

you could instal a dvd rom drive in your mpc, then burn dvd's on your computer, to load into mpc

I thought that 137gb max limit applied to USB hd as well because the drive had to be formatted to FAT32 and that the MPC would not recognize and use drives bigger than that.

Are you telling me that we can use external drives as big as we like? Have you done this successfully? If that the case I'd rather go with that option instead cause I was thinking about getting a 300gb external drive anyway but I didn't think I'd be able to use it with the 4K.

I have an apple dvd combo drive installed in mine. It works fine.

also on the usb drive. I am going on second hand information. there was a similar thread a couple of months ago. some said the usb ignore the 120gb limit. as this limit is an interanal ide limit. and the usb ignores this limit.
