newly shipped mpc4000s

i hear that the newly shipped mpc4000s, that you cant sample from its cdrom slot because you need something(dont no what, i thinka chip or something) to sample... or is this horseshit... if im not making myself clear apologize but i want to no what im getting myself into

.. you probably gonna need to buy the cable for connecting the digital audio from cd drive to mpc. cost: zero to nothing aarrgh.. rumors..
i honestly dont think that there is a chip missing in the new ones

Afaik it works like this: If you buy a cdrom player/writer for your mpc4k, and the cdrom drive supports an analog and/or digital audio output, you can sample audio cds directlly from the drive, simply by inserting the audio cd in the mpc's cdrom drive and selecting the correct sampling input in the Record page.

However, to be able to use the cdrom player's *digital* audio output (and you want that because the analog outputs in cdrom drives are mostly terribly c r a p), you must have the SPDIF card installed in your mpc4k, because it's the SPDIF card you connect the cdrom drive's digital output to.

I further learned that the new blue mpc4k machines are standard delivered with the SPDIF card off factory (although you'll probably pay for it), where the older white ones didn't.

To confuse matters, when you look at the back of an mpc4k, and you see the SPDIF sockets, don't think it has the SPDIF card installed. All machines have these sockets mounted on the back, but only the machines with the optional SPDIF card installed can actually use these sockets.
