Switchin from 2000xl/z8 to Mpc 4000 ???

hi there.

CUrrently I use the 2000xl as a suquencer and the z8 as the partner sampler to it. They go along really well.

I will do some live sets soon. However I am concerned about the fragileness of the z8. besides I would like to have as few rack instruments with me as possible.

So i thought of a machine that has both a 2000xl and a z8/z4 inside = mpc 4000. right?

However I cannot afford both. So here is my question

Can I throw my .all mpc2000xl files (songs) inside the mpc4000 AND at the
same time a .akm file so that my songs are immidietly playable in the mpc4000? I hope I have made myself clear enough here.

I want to load my sequencer files from the 2000xl (.all) and my .akm files from the z8 simultaneously into mpc4000 -

is that possible??

By the way - how does the engine inside the mpc 4000 function - are the sampler and sequencer separate engines? or is it more like mpc2000xl?

And last question: Are there any reasons why I wouldn't switch from the combi of 2000xl/z8 to Mpc4000 ??

Anyone who could help me with these questions i would kiss in the arse.

I can't really be of much help because I've never used the 2kxl+Z8 combination but I would not change your setup if I were you 'cos you ll have to learn how the 4000 operates and I dunno how much time it could take you

could you perhaps answer the 3rd question then?

well, I'd say it s more like seperate engines
I guess you ll have more answers to these questions if you could test a 4k yourself

if you don't have this opportunity, maybe someone who rocked a 2kxl and a Z8 at the same time plus has some knowledge about the 4 might be of some help to you

I think this is possible, but why not email me an mpc2k .all file and a (small) z8 .akm file (+ samples) so that I can try out? I'll send you an mp3 of the result. Would that do it for you?

you should be able to load the sequences into the mpc4000. Then load the multi from the z/8. You might have to do some routing.You should not have to worry about the sturdiness of the z8. Akai make all of its sampler really tough , so they stand up on the road.

And let me add that the 4000 is not that hard to learn if you go that route. You can get familiar with it in about a week if you actually read the manual, which alot of people seem not to do for one reason or another.

well - the detachable control panel is rather soft and from plastik.

They schould make it like my Machinedrum - all from metal

according to Rob (thanx dude!) - the mpc/z8 programs are fully compatible - altough with some obvious re-routing of channels.
