Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

some of you might know this one...but if not, check it -

you know how you might do a break using just the start and play buttons, where you make an intro or something just going back and forth between start and play, but then you're like, how do I actually program it? Try this. Take a two bar pattern that has hits on the 1. This is sequence 1. Copy it into two new sequences, 2 and 3. Make sequence 2 one bar long, but make the time signature into 2/16. Then make sequence 3 one bar long, but make the time signature 3/16. Then go to song mode and program it like this:

sequence 2: repeat once
sequence 3: repeat twice
sequence 2: repeat once
sequence 3: repeat twice
sequence 1: repeat once

there you go, you have a hot intro to your track. It works the best when you don't have long samples in the original beat.

If i got this right why not just go into your paramater screen and turn the pad/one shot sound you're going to us to mono mode. This way you can get that stuttering /stab effect off ther rip. If I misunderstood post an audio example.

nope, sorry, my stuff isn't on the net. I lived in analog world for a long time, got a lot of stuff on casettes actually...some on dat and cd. but that will change soon. trust me, if you take a two bar loop that has no long samples in it and program it like I suggested you'll see what I'm talking about.

yes, you could get the same effect in other ways. this is just a really sick way to do it...also once you figure out how it works you can make intros and breaks real quick. I can't give an audio example, but if you try it you'll see how it works.

just play the sequencer, and record it to a tape deck (or if you have another sampler, sample the 1st bar of your beat) Play the tape/sampler, and sample the beat to a pad on the MPC. Now you have your beat sampled to 1 pad, and you can de-tune, filter, or whatever you would like.
