Just wondering.... Do you find that the beats you make reflect the way you feel? Like if you're feelin' down or whatever, or if you're pissed you'll end up with a beat thats kinda aggressive and heavy hitting?
Or is it more like you have one pretty consistent 'feeling' or sound or whatever that your beats have all the time?

It seems that all of my beats have a mellow laid back feel. Mainly because I usually slow down the tempo of each sample I use. Rappers shopping beats here (in South Carolina) want that upbeat crunk sound, but that just ain't my style

This may sound odd..but besides my general mood...it also depends on what time of day it is. At night time, I make mellow stuff...even if its a bangin sample. But if it's in the morning or midday then it's on an poppin. In fact, I quit making beats at night because I didn't like that DJ Shadow feel they had when I listened to them the next morning. I like to open my blinds and look out the windows at nature when I make beats...that's where I draw my inspiration. But sometimes I can kick it at night too...

I make tracks over periods of time. I may come back to something three months later and put on a second part that evolves from the first. I also work almost soley at night, so everything I do does have a kind of dreamy headphone feel.

yea for real. everyone here in the bay area wants "hyphy" beats. but i don't even have a keyboard to be making those. plus it's not really my style. i'm also laid back. most of my shit is either sad, slow, or weird.. and it doesn't depend on how i feel because regardless of my mood, i always sample the "beautiful sounding" shit and that's usually sad to me.

It seems like no matter whats going on in "real" life when I start working on music it makes me feel good. Like it kind of controls my moods, not too high, not too low, just in a zone not really thinking, just working and listening to what Im creating. Not all my beats have the same feel but I pretty much feel the same when I make them.

I'm the type to throw on inspiring songs to get me moving or when I get beat block or writers block. When I grab a set of headphones and throw on the following songs like biggie "my downfall" "suicidal thoughts" jayz "anything" and "song cry" I'm at my best.

Cuz those type of songs create a whole new world for me musically. I begin to write about my life and my fam, stress, politics, god etc. Most of the time I have to write before I make beatz. I need to feel what i'm makin.

So for me overall is to zone out with a few cds and some headphones pen and pad. And I'm good to go. After i'm done zonin I start poundin pads and keyz.

i dunno but im at my most productive by myself in the studio late at night.

like 2 to 6 am bangin out beats. theres this weird feeling like everybody else in the world is sleeping and im up all night concocting evil solutions like a mad scientist.

Its weird but I feel that I can be more honest with myself in that situation. Like no strings attached, just me and my beats...thats me thoough

I based my style on how I freak the sample I try different things that I know another beatmaker be like how you do that where you get that sample or whatever I think it the most creative I hate beats and samples that creates its own mood thats why I think a lot of ****** is wack and uncreative they sample a mellow sound sample so they whole beat be a mellow laid back beat im the type to take a loud aggressive punk record and turn that into a love song and whateva time of the day it is my beats its creative and it dont have a certain mood rappers I mess with be like your beats is hot but I dont know what to write about I tell them be creative or keep it moving
