small theory class,

3/4 = 1-2-3 and the accent is on the one
6/8 = 1-2-3-4-5-6 and the accent is on the one
2/4 = 1-2 and the accent is on the one
4/4 = 1-2-3-4 and the accent is on the one

so, if you take that 3/4 loop and double it (make two copies back to back), it becomes 6/8. to keep the 3/4 feel instead of the accent being on 1 the accent are now on 1 and 4. now that the accents are on 1 and 4 you can now count it as 2/4 and the accents are now on 1 and 2. now bring it into 4/4 and you count it as 1-2-3-4 but in actuallity it is 1-2-3 2-2-3 3-2-3 4-2-3.

again, music theory is not a must be it is a good tool to have.

p.s. this is not that hard to do i suggest practicing it. [/b]

3/4 isnt just waltz, it can be used for anything. Ive heard a lot of beats at 3/4.

Hmm. Are you sure triggering two 3/4 samples really makes it 6/8? In my theory class a while back my teacher was complaining that the class was writing a time sig. like another one. Like we were doing 2/4 like 4/8. I can't remember the exact sig. but I think it was 3/4 and 6/8. I'm no expert. If you have more experience/knowledge then tell me I'm wrong :)

well, try this simple test yourself spectre. count it out:

3/4
1-2-3-1-2-3 ===> this is 2 bars (2 3/4 loops)
6/8
1-2-3-4-5-6 ===> this is 1 bar

plus basic math if you reduce 6/8 to is least common denornator it is 3/4. wow, i'm going from music to math teacher. school is out lets go back to "IS PRO TOOLS RIGHT FOR ME" or "HOW CAN I CONNECT MOTIF TO MY MPC".

No I know the math is right and shit but I was saying, if you read my post, that there is certain ways to write the time sig. I'm not retarded I know basic math.

come on you gotta break it down more than that Mr. Walker!!

I worked with a client who was educated in Europe and he said the people here don't get as good of a music education here, he said he's wokred with many top arrangers and they have alternate time signatures written out wrong, like 6/8 as 3/4, or 3/4 as 4/4. he scores as well and he said many of the top session players (lincoln center orch players) get scared ar dotted notes in odd signatures.

in the session i do most producers hum the groove/beat they want out to me and then the structure ie intro, verse so on and for guitars, keys, bass they get charts:

7/8 C F G7 C
/////// /////// /////// /////// and so on.

I think I read somewhere

premo looped a 3/4 break for biggie and killed it not sure of the titles. I tried it and it sounded like a reggae beat it was kinda dope.

was the one where he sampled Screamin Jay Hawkins "I put a Spell on You." But he chopped it into 4/4.

. I want to make someting that sounds differnt. But only waltz and stuff are generally in 3/4 time.

>>>>>>>>>

Do something in 7/8- 3/4 is very waltzy- and triplets ahev been done- so why not one of those 7/8 rhythms where every last beat is the first beat of the next bar- get your rapper to rap in 4/4 (or 8/8) and you could get some cool shit going on...

i use 3/4 time sigs once in a while... i just put the snare on the 3 instead of the 2 and 4... its always a way around it if your drums aint lockin and all that good stuff... it can get stressful but once you get it, ohh how sweet it is :lol:
