Trouble with Zip Disk

Hey dudes..whats up ...it is me again......thank you guys for all your contributing info on the last thread I posted......however, if it ain't one thing it is another!!!

I have my sounds...mpc drum sounds stored on various 250mb zip disks.....the problem that i am experiencing is that when i load my zip disks in the mpc....it says wrong file format......which through experience has led me to understand that all my sounds have been erased......unretrieveable......which is by the way one of the worst things in the world...this has recently happen and I really don't whats going on.....I do know that if those zips or placed next to a magnet or something its a wrap!! but besides that..i don't know what is the culprit.......i have about 8 zips with pure drum sounds on it........2 maybe 3 work......what am i doing wrong and what can i do to rectify the problem??? somebody please shed some knowledge on me!!!! im so tired of this issue guys for real!!!! thanks.......

this stuff has been plaguing us for years!

yes you have to keep them in a good magnet free area and static free environment, but also u have to make sure that those zips only be used in the MPC only not using them interchangably with the PC. this can cause the PC to re write the boot sector (i think) from MPC to PC causing the zip to get corrupted.

also COD = click of death were the zip drive clicks like mad when it tries to load. if this is so u will need to buy a new drive and use new disks cause tha SHIT spreads like aids man!

anyway when u use new zips format them as MPC and not DOS. and use em for MPC only. when u want to back to pd thats if u do that is, then use a new fresh zip load the sounds to it then take to the pc.

also u can cliam replacement drives and zips for free from iomega,com i get new ones for free every 3-5 months or so just for the fun of it.

to be honest man after a while zip drives and/or disks are crap. my zip drive recently started goin wrong. i still dont know the reason, but im starting to suggest harddrives more and more...

so you mean to tell me that there is no other way for me to avoid this prolem?? u have 2q b kidding me!!!! so tell me more about ordering replacement zipdisks and drives...that will definitely be something that i will do in the near future.....

i sent u a pm, however i did a bug TOPIC on it last year do a search on the forums to get the full thing.

Damn, I tried that and it almost worked too... The guy online said he would send new disks but then said he couldn't deliver to my area. He gave me a phone no. to call iomega, but they said they can't replace unless you send the disks in to be checked.

THis might help as earlier in the post if the disk gets near your headphones samples go bye bye( diskread error, wrong file format etc)
if the disk gets near speakers samples go bye bye
MOST IMPORTANTLY DONT LEAVE THE DISK IN THE DRIVE AFTER YOU TURN OFF THE ZIP DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! worst thing you can do.
also dont over load the disk, like fill it with 99mb or samples lost forever.

THis is what happened for SURE you either A: inserted the disk in a computer or other zip disk drive corrupting it. or
B: You didnt "reset" the scsi drive in the mpc and then you loaded another disk the second disk got jacked by the first,

for a while i thought you couldnt use more than one disk at a time to load samples into the mpc without the second disk getting ruined and end up with all the files from the first disk being copied onto it then you have 2 of the same disk, one is useless says wrong file format. all files on the second disk are lost. After you load the first disk sounds you have to go to scsi take it off scsi5 so you cant see a sample name to load its blank, then load disk 2. Ruined tons of samples trying to switch disks in one session on my mpc because i didnt reset the scsi device I cant believe Akai allows the mpc to do this.

wow.........i can't even believe you just told me that..........do you know how many sounds I have lost because of that?? thanks a bunch for that advice...it will be put to get use instantly.....

did u go to the live help where u instance message them?
also your just meant to be kool with em and just say that "its not working" and act dumb! they give up and send em to u. the area however thats deep never knew that.

Also make sure that you back up your zip disk on your comp if you can. I have a USb Zip to my comp to swap sounds, and i have a file of all my MPC stuff saved to the comp. Make sure you don't drop those zips!!!

how do i back my sounds to my computer if i don't have that type of zip drive...??

what u mean? i have 10 pc formatted zips with my sounds.. absolutely worthless now. can i get replacement disks for free??

If you have an external scsi zip drive you can by a scsi card for your comp, and daisy chain the mpc and the comp. If your using the internal MPC zip then you would have to buy an external usb zip drive(not expense), and now you can transfer.
