2 Questions

Can someone help me please? First of all, I ordered a 256 mb ram chip by Crucial (the ram that was recommended on this site), and I just installed it, but when I go to the load screen, it says I have 144 mb installed. Minus the 16mb that it comes with, that only leaves 128mb. Does that mean they sent me the wrong chip or is there something I don't know?

Secondly, is there anyway I can save a song I just made on my mpc onto my computer through the USB connection? I want to start making and saving songs but can't wait for my hard drive to arrive.

1. Sounds like they have sent you a 128Mb Stick of Ram by mistake - get in contact with Cruitial.

2. Yes, load up AKSys while the MPC4000 is on, you can then access the programs and samples that are in memory and save them to your PC's hard-disk, however, this is not a reccomended way to work.

can u plz explain 2 me how come its not cuz i was thinkin thats all u need 2 do....whats tha advantages and disadvantages of just saving your work on your pc...instead of like getting an external hard disk and hooking that up 2 yer mpc

Thanks for the reply, though I was hoping it would be something different. The thing that's confusing me is that on the ram chip, it is labelled 256 mb ram. Maybe they just mislabelled it?

Nope, I think it might be the number of memory chips on the memory itself. I tried a 256MB which had 8 small chips on it and only got 128MB from it. I think the answer is in the installation PDF:

The required memory board is 168-pin DIMM (PC133/PC100, CL2).
* 256bit x 8 type DIMM is not supported. 128bit x 16 type is recommended.

I might be wrong but thats the only good answer I can come up with. I played safe and got hold of a perfect tested memory:
Kingston ValueRam, 256MB SDRAM PC100 168-pin CL2
KVR100X64C2/256

Got two of those and now I have 512MB.
