yes another midi question

ok i got a tascam us-122 and it has midi in and midi out,but heres my question,i can already record from the mixer 2 tha computer thru my Line in's so whut would be the difference if i use midi cuz i still have 2 solo the tracks? im kinda confused on this one so if sumbody could explain the difference that would be great "in a newb non-technical way,lol" oh and here's whut im workin with:

its not a matter of using one or the other, midi doesn't transmit audio and audio doesn't transmit midi.

You can use the midi interface to sync your MPC/Fantom to CEP so that all of your tracks are in time with each other when you track 'em out.




Why the switch to CEP from PT? just curious

Oh,no switch,see i got a Laptop on the side,then i got my desktop (which is Mbox and PT setup) but see i asked about syc with midi with mbox and forgot my tascam had the midi on it,so how would i go about settin everything up? do i need 2 run midi out or juss in?? kinda confusing then whut settings do i use in my mpc and CEP?

also i got CEP on my desktop (i edit loops and samples alot with it) so i can transfer the session cuz i have a portalble drive but should i juss track out with cool edit or sumhow dum into PT once i got it on my desktop?

I hope I have this right? If you are talking about the "line in" that came with your laptop you do not want to record your tracks into this because the AD/DA converters are not going to be as good as your 122 or MBox. You only mute the tracks that you are not recording because both of your recording devices only can record a max of 2 tracks at a time via 1/4" input. You can make it 4 using the SPDIF input but that's more problems if you dont know about it. Why not use the MBox with your laptop then you would not have to convert/dump/switch between programs. They are both multitrack programs and Pro Tools is the "industry standard" multi-tracking program. Just use the MBox and record two tracks at a time and do all your editing in Pro Tools, PLEASE!? You will be glad you did in the long run .
