Better then Crates...Imo

Anyone use those post office boxes for holding Vinyl.. I have a bunch in my basement, and use it for come storage... Also spray painted um black, cuz I didn't want the post office logo.. Think is there are longer so
there is a space between the vinyl and the edge, I usualy put random
shit in there, chords, cds, what ever..

The best thing to use I got from Walmart.. ITs a Rubbermade case that fits vinyl perfectly. Comes with a cover to cover up the vinyl too.. It holds prolly twice as much as milkcrates, and well is my personal fave...Stackable, less dust (when in the basement), and well just my personal thing.. To tell the truth I have owned milk crates, but this is my thing now... Thing is I hope they still make um, bought mine like three years ago..

How do those things hold up when you carry them around?
I've tried those milk crate type things that you can get at Target or KMart, but as soon as you pick them up with records in them, they bend all up and shtt. The real milk crates are reinforced with metal, so they can take the weight.

round here the milkcrates with the metal reinforcement band are becoming rarer and rarer... those are the only ones i pick up...

The rubbermade is strong as hell.. Like I said I bought it for storage one day, and didn't think to use it for vinyl, until I was down in my basement, and was like.. Oh shit... It doesn't been or anything... Thing is with all the vinyl, its heavy as shit, no bending though.. I used to put my weights in um before (steel weights over a couple of hundred pounds, and it held that...

Maybe they make um crappy these days... I'll go to walmart and see if they still make um...

the ikea expedit is where it's at. only $100 and they're better looking than shitty old milk crates.

And bigger. And harder to move. And more likely to break under the weight.

Man I think they changed up the Milk Crates cuz DJ's was taken em! Now That I need em I Can't find em!!

bigger and harder to move, yes, but likely to break, no. I know of several people that have filled the expedit with their vinyl and by all accounts they're quite sturdy. milk crates on the other hand are quite flimsy and liable to bend because they're constructed of cheap plastic.

Man, if they only made these in 4 x 4 shelves, I would put it up against a big wall and paint a big 60 on it with the shelves over the pads.

Yeah, I know. I was doing a gig the other night, and saw one at the venue. Even though my car was full of equipment, and I was 10 hours away from where I live, I still snagged it, crammed it in the car, and drove it all the way back with me.

Not the ones with metal in them. Those are the ones I use. Plus they're free.

you trippin these creates dont bend for sht man, and my wall is pretty phucken stable.

i tie my sht to the wall if you see the line through the crates,it's called reenforcement, i like to call it earthquake proofing.

my sht will out last the flimsy ass expedit any time
allthought it is a nice peice of furniture,

but i like the rugged look thanks

how do you know the expedit is flimsy? I hear they're very sturdy. I would rather own an expedit to hold my vinyl than have a shitload of mismatched crates lining my walls. too ghetto for my tastes and a lot of wasted space.

anyways... Crates are the easiest thing to work with, in terms of storage I like my rubbermade, cuz its a airtight lid.. Plus you can stack um, no problemo... But costs more, and its a **** when you want to get in them if they are stacked..

just copped a few Expedit shelves at Ikea, i got a cool 40% off, i couldnt resist...

the one pictured above is $149.99, they do have a smaller 4X4 one instead of that 5X5 one shown above... the 4X4 is the one that is priced $99.99... these are regular price of course... look for the sales!

they are cool... prefect size for recs... the stable/sturdy factor is up to you though, you have to build these shelves yourself... its not too dificult to assemble with 2 people on the job... they are made mainly of particle board with a decent shell/finish... they definitely wont last forever(come on now, its IKEA), but if not relocated over and over again, itll probably hold up for a nice amount of time... if you have to transport these shelves though, theyd probably start to lose some of their strength...

i copped em cuz i got a dope azz deal, id never even consider buying these if it wasnt for an IKEA worker i know... the chance came to get a good deal and i came up...

i still got some crates stacked though
