I've searched but can't get the answer I want on external cd

Can you use any external scsi cdrom drive? does it have to be a certain speed. I know you can only load from them. But I've been looking on ebay and have no idea if they are gonna be compatable?
What should I look for, just 'scsi cdrom' any idea on a good make or one you know work well with the 2000xl and also play cdrw's. I will have to copy wavs on a friends PC as I have not got one, is there anything I should know when copying them? or as long as it says wav is that ok.
Is there a walk through guide in the search cause I only get an hour on a pc at the local library and don't have time to rake through the search results
