Hey all. I've hooked up my MPC to my PC like this:

MPC 1k MIDI out -> AUDIGY 2 ZS MIDI IN so I can be able to send it samples and so on.

MPC Stereo OUT -> Audigy 2 ZS LINE in 3 so I can hear sounds coming from the MPC

. I have two questions: 1) Despite my best EQing efforts the sounds from the MPC sound a little distorted in the PC. 2) How do I add whatever sound that's coming from the MPC to my LIVE sessions? I've tried to re-scan feature in LIVE and don't see the MPC showing up in my PLUG-INs list. What am I doing wrong here? All I want to be able to do is include my MPC in LIVE like this. Send the MPC samples, so I can work them in there and play them back and record them into LIVE. Thanx in advance for your response(s).

Right.....THE MPC1000 IS NOT PLUG-IN!! Though you literally PLUG IT IN! ITS NOT A PLUG IN....

IT IS A SEQUENCER & SAMPLER!! OK!!

Read HERE for what a plug in is.

Right now please read HERE on what MIDI really is.
There is this really great part on MIDI is not AUDIO!

Now I want to know who told you, you could send files through a MIDI connection? Anyway when you have read all this, I will help you set it up right to do what u want to do...BTW a clue for sending files is.......'USB'

lmao,

and still rollin' on the floor laughing.

Sorry to be that sarcastic, but you know, that was a CLASSIC.

You should really, really take the time and read all the info you can get about "music making" on a pc.

Penfold hooked you up with some info and you have the WWW at your fingertips.

And IF you still should have such basic questions, you should post them in the newbie section.

cheers

Sigh!! Thanx for the help and the laughs fellas. I'm sorry to have OFEENDED some of you "elite" faggots with my basic noob questions. But hey we all had to start somewhere right. And for the record, yes I have read, all I do is read. But the dry text book materials, even on the web, is just that, dry. Without proper guidance, all the info you read becomes garbled giberish. As though I were the only one here to make theoretical errors. I can just imagine some of the n00b mistakes you dickheads made with your equipment. Hey this realm of music is very daunting, there's so much info out there one hardly knows not only where to start but how to go about doing things...right. And the mere fact that you have stupid dickheads laughing at your mistakes along with a bunch of jack offs that simply wish to keep everything to theirselves makes the craft of making music even more daunting. All I ask is for a little help to figure things out, not to be laughed at. LAst time I checked this was forum to post such "n00b" questions. But I made the mistake of going to the wrong people I see. THANX AGAIN!

S**t murv. Sorry you had to meet some of the elite first off.
Its sad that the forums that are here to help you cant be used coz of flaming. Anyways, to correct you penfold you can send audio through midi, its damn long process, and the 1k cant do it anyway.

'Because there is a limit to how quickly you can pipe data down a MIDI cable, MIDI can't be used for the transmission of audio or sample information in real time, though you can transfer samples in non-real time from a computer sample editor to a sampler using MIDI's Sample Dump protocol (if you're prepared to put up with the slowness of it).'
From Sound on sound (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1995_ar ... sics3.html)

Just to clear things up.
The mpc 1k can be used as a midi controller. Meaning it only sends data as to what you press and when (and how hard etc).
If its rigged up to ableton via you can only record what is pressed and when. Look in the back of the manual for what settings can be assigned on the midi implementation chart.
If you want to take the samples off, just take them directly off the Compact Flash card and drop them straight into Ableton.
Other than that, just read the manuals and experiment.
Take it easy and dont get disheartened.
You'll be laughing when you're making hot ish whilst fools are still sitting around flaming newbies.

murv, after all the reading and you did not see anywhere the mention of the mpc being a "PLUG IN" then why to persist on thinking it is. if all you do is read, then i question your reading comprehension. I am not trying to come down on you but please do yourself a favor next time and read some more.

erm....I re-read my post and then i read it again (changed a spelling mistake), you know to comprehend what was really going on and, boy! I was not flaming anyone or being rude or making u feel like a noob. If I had met you in person I would have carried on the same way, and you would have been laughing with me.

anyway if u dont appreciate my help then thats your problem...see how far u get trying to use the MPC1000 as a plug-in.

Penfold-You may not have "felt" that you were making fun or making anyone feel like a noob but I did detect a sense of sarcasm tinged with a belittling twist, especially after reading your initial post. No worries I still appreciate the help.

After re-reading my post I realized that in my zeal to find answers to my question I used some words out of context. When I said "plug-in" I didn't mean it in the sense that it was designed. I know that the MPC isn't a "plug in". Oh and Sparq there's nothing wrong with my comprehension, I probably have much better reading and comprehension skills than you. My problem is that despite all of the reading I have done sometimes, you actually need to see something done to get a better visualization of it. This is why video Tuts work so well. Coupled with the fact that most of what I read isn't specific to the tools that I have and voila.

To rephrase my question the typical scene is this: I'm working on a song, laid down the synth sounds, got my drum loops, vocals, some effects, and in some cases worked the solo in the track. All of sudden I get an idea to add to or rework the drum track. Currently, I'd have to go into the MPC, program the beat and eventually load different parts of it into LIVE as soundclips and loop them there. Kinda tedious and makes for an even longer night. I just want a better and faster way to record my ideas directly from the MPC on LIVE. Thanx for the help and the positive feedback I've received on the matter.

Hey Murv Lightin' up...
I think out of all the posters I may have the least technical knowledge..
Hell Ive had PT for almost a year and I was all set to go out and buy a soundcard and I didnt even know I had a good one already.....

Quit being sensative if not then the music business is not what you want to get into... Because you'll hear alot worse than what you heard...

The worst thing I ve heard thus far....
I had a meeting at Def Jam and the A/R person told me to start rapping like Kanye West instead of the flow I had..
