If I get an MPC what else will I need to make sick beats?

I agree with Dr. Foo. It's all up to the individual. Don't go for that sound that everybody is trying to immitate, make up your own shiznit. if you wanna hook up a drum track and wanna throw a tuba sample in there... do that SHIZNIT!!! Be creative yo!!

Hi all, just to confirm what Dr. Foo said, Shadow made the entire "endtroducing" album on his mpc2000, he did splash out on getting it all maxed out when he got it. He used one turntable, all his phenomenal dig material, and some old mixer that he loved like a pet. Apparently he said that it had this great, warm sound that meant his samples sounded real nice.

Since then though, he has started using pro tools, although in some studio shots I saw on his site, he still had the one turntable and yes, the mpc.

i was reading a article in the new XXL about a producer name Hurt M Badd. this cat made the beat for Hail Mary and Me and My Girlfriend

the funny thing was, he said the studio he worked in at death row was called the "the wack room" (i guess cause dre & daz and the boys weren't in their)

anyway this guy "wack" beatz turned out to be some hip hop classic shit

I would suggest that you get some good samples to begin with. You can make some incredible beats on the MPC alone. I have tracks that are all MPC2000XL and nothing else-no keyboard or module used. Remember you can sample guitar chords/lines, keys, bass notes, etc. Just for the record, I'm not suggesting that loops be used. It can be done with the MPC alone.

For sick beats, you need a virus ;)

see the thang is to make your own sounds there for you'll have your own sound you can get all kinds of software for free from wav editor to fruityloops any program that exports to wav is a must have for all mpc users

Diggin is sampling from records right, so what if something recorded on a record was sampled. To get "real" original samples would be to play the instrument/pot/pan yourself right?

Don't get me wrong, I dig also. But it can be a toss up between original and sampled. Just cause you are sampling a record doesn't make it original. It could be a sample of a sample of a sample.. As long as the end result sounds hot though who really cares.

An MPC is not that fun without records.........and skillz..which comes from years of payin dues
