Yes I just spoke to Bruce at Forat via e-mail and he said 50.00 to ship the mpc-60 and 250.00 for the modification. Before I do so has anybody had this done and more importantly do they feel it improved their beats or is it worth it to just continue using a mixing consoles TRIM?

I'm always analyzing my track's waveforms in sound forge and I notice my drums even with a dbx 166 compressor aren't getting that full sustain i'm looking for. I've noticed drums from many professional cds such as Pete Rock and CL Main Ingredient and yeah the SP-1200 bangs extremely hard without the use of a board. My man told me that if I get this upgrade it should be on par with the 3000 output......and it breathes new life into your drum tracks.

The surgical procedure only takes a week. I believe he would go under the solder for about 4 hours or so and then sent back to me in the medavac. We'll have a warm cozy basement waiting for him when he returns....Stay strong little buddy!

Any feelings on this?

Thanks in advance.

One of my main concerns is doing live performances with the MPC-60II....it's not very loud at all....although I did notice the headphone jack produces a quite satisfactory high volume output. I would trade that headphone jack in anyday for plush leather armrests....

I'm gonna try my luck in Philadelphia at an upcoming BEAT SOCIETY....that is if I am asked to come back and do the show again. I wanna represent the MPC-60 to the fullest.....cus i've yet to see anybody use that sh!t......mostly all TRITON, MPC2000/XL, SP1200 and ASR-10s.

I am a bit ambivalent about this mod, I am curious about it, I think it would be dope, but $250 dope? plus $50 shipping (is that both ways?)

I have seen some Forat Mods in this Linn 9000 (mods from 89) and they are No Joke, I'll post some pics up at some point of the mods. They know what they are doing and judging by these mods, this +4 dB mod could be very complicated and quite difficult to do right without proper guidance.

I don;t think it is just a few resistors, I really wish it was because then I would do it myself, but with Forat you never know. But you know, they charge $800 for the mods I've seen, and this is only $250, so maybe it's not that bad.

Mike, Rohan, you guys know anything about this? Care to chime in?

I got schems!!!

yeah i'd like to know by monday cus I need to ship this out there......i'm afraid i might just be as well off if i simply purchase 8 direct boxes and connect it to each channel output? They run 30.00 a piece and would cost a total of 240.00

A Direct box won't boost your signal, what you could get are those little line mixers that they have behind the gear in music stores, little box, one knob each, 8 in two out. Ah screw it, maybe you should get it then take pics of the inside to see if it's doable DIY.

Nobody is doubting his work, what the unknown factor is here is how much of an improvement does this actually bring. It it a turbo injection, or a few more inches on your rims?

mine dont even have rims...

If you got a 60, you got rims compared to the other MPC's.

No, doubt. Im just bummed my tuning is flawed. My 60 is definitely gonna make me be extra creative composing for now... So im interested too on how this turns out because when I get my 60 serviced I may get this done. Cant wait to hear how it comes out drumat!c.

Damn yalll gonna leave me behind and shyt.

Yo Drumatic if you do get it done I may have to go out to philly to hear the difference if you;re down.

The OUTPUT line drive operational amplifers are of type M5220P (M5210P) ( Mitsubishi ) and are drop in compatible with JRC/HITACHI/MATSUSHITA/ST and NATSEMI cross reference models.

These operational amplifiers are capable of running HOT levels with minimal component changes.

IE: I doubt very much where this level boost mod is concerned that the ouput line drive operational amplifiers will be changed over.

Given the number output channels in an MPC60 and how long it would take
to perform any modification of this type then I feel FORAT's price is reasonable.

The job would be a real pain to perform.

Is it worth it ??? Who knows.

Rohan.

Thanks Rohan.

Yeah, even if it was just a pair of resistors per channel, it would be somewhat difficult. But if it was just some resistors, I'd sooner do it myself than shell out cash and ship my baby. I mean, I did rebuild the power supply and replace every tact switch in this thing, a few resistors should be no problem. I've built amplifier circuits with op amps, a quick look at the datasheet and I could get the resistor values right. But then, is it worth the risk? Are th values really right? Am I missing something in the mpc 60 circuitry (probably). So yeah, his price is more than fair for the mod, but whoever gets it take a pic of the inside after you get it if it is visible, I have a feeling that they may just solder some resistors on top of others to get the value boost, and then it would just be a decoding of the resistor values.

Man I'm on the fence about this.

Darn - really wanted to know by today......i'm afraid i'll be the sucka that shells out 300.00 to have my unit used as a guineau pig. I'm sure Forat does fantastic work that is not my question.....I wanna know whether or not there is a substantial difference in sound quality and output. I want to hear the difference between a mpc-60 output with out the mod and one with the mod and see the differences in frequency output and impact. I wanna know if this modification will make my snares hit as hard as a 3000. All I know is that I used to own an SP-12 turbo and that thing had major output and the mpc-60 is weak as shit compared to it. Now when I connect my MPC to a compressor i feel i'm not driving enough load to really compress anything because the 8 outputs are just that weak. They need more volume from the source.

Someone anyone. Please contact forat and maybe have them get us in contact with someone who had it done and who can play a sample or 2 of a direct connection recording from the MPC60.

Thanks so much!

DRUMAT!C

PS. Yo elma- of course you can come to my crib and check it out. Worst case i'll sell my mpc-60 for 1,100.00 and then repurchase a new one and have you do the mod for 100.00 or so. hehehe
