i've got the basics,,,like velocity,,,,panning,,,etc..
but i haven't really got what i'm looking for...

what i'm trying to get at is
i'm starting to produce hip hop
what i here out there,,,seems to be alot of older sampled drums
i try to play all my patterns rather than sample

I don't understand this part ofyour post. Are you saying your not gonna sample drum sounds and your gonna use synthesized drums. Most people don't take the drums off a record then drop them under a sample. What people do is chop the drums of a pattern up then make their own pattern.

,,and i see what your saying about chopping up the sample
i'm gone have to try that
i'm tryinh to get that feel through banging them out on my mpc

If youre changing the velocity on different hits youre defintely on the right track. Other than that play with your swing settings and do drum rolls with at least 2-3 different toms. Make sure you have good samples too.
