Big time newb. Needs help! please

Ok this may sound a bit silly but hey thats life. Anyway i bought scratch magazine yesterday and noticed how many producers swore by their Mpc , 2000XL especially. So i rang my nearest tech store, and asked if they had any in stock and how much they are, so they had a second hand one, which was practically as good as new, and wanted 899 euro for it but said theyll take 600 cash, so i got excited went it and bought it...

Now i have my MPC and it looks great but what can i do with it lol... How do i incorparte it into my cubase setup. i really just want it for making really good beats but where do i get sounds from?? is there any free samples anywere i cant afford to buy any just yet.... And also is there any built in if there is i cant find them? Please help thanks.!!

Well sounds are all over the place. This board sells them and so does ebay at really good prices.

I bought 8,000 sounds drums efx etc. and all on ebay for .99. No lie!!

The next thing is what did the mpc come with. If it isnt maxed out with memory your beat making samples etc will be limited. Does it have and 8 output board?

Does it have a built in zip drive or basic floppy disk drive? Did it come with a OS software disk?

Its fairly easy to use. But I really suggest you do a search on this site for more useful info. Being that you are new, it will be difficult to walk you through every step. So you gotta get reading.

The power of the MPC is that it doesn't come with any sounds. You can put any sounds in there that you want. But what you need to do it to go out and get a turntable and a Mixer of some sort. With the turntable you can use that to sample records to create sounds.

Thanks guys, no it didnt come with any f them things just the floppy disc, so ill probably have to spend more money on it huh? , Any ways the OS whats that all about aint it already built in? Thanks for your help guys!

I have the 2000 and every time I wanna use it I have to load the OS disk first.

I havent used the xl but I'm pretty that you still have to load the OS disk.

If you dont have it then go to akai's site to get it.

As far as all the bells and whistles for your MPC. Go to ebay and look around for zip drive and some cheap memory. So that you can get the full benefit of your MPC.

The eight output board usually runs somewhere in the 200-250 range. But you really dont need it. Its depends on how you want your setup.

But when you say load the OS, i dont know hwat you mean i turn on my MPC and its got the edit page and the mixer and all that is that tyhe OS?

I have the 2000. And when I turn my MPC on it asks for the software. As such I have to insert the OS software disk.

I have never used the xl but I'm assuming you have to do the same.

Check to see if there is a disk inside the floppy drive.

There is but theres nothing on it and it doesnt ask for me to load anything so i guess its ok? im able to record audio into it so in sure its ok...

If there is a disk in it, it wont ask you anything. It does it automatically.
