what up im 15 and want to get into producing early so when im out of high school i will be comfortable wit making beats and just producing music in general. I've been just saving money because i want to buy some production gear but im not really sure what to buy , i've been working wit fruity loops for about 1 month or so and i just dont like tha way my beats turn out they sound to computer generated to me, so i was tihnking of getting a mpc and since i dont have that much money to spend i was thinking of gettin tha cheapest one the mpc 1000 but i really dont know anything about producing. i've just been rapping and selling my mixtapes around to get money but i've just really feel in love wit really creating beatz but i have no idea how to do anything all i know is a MPC is tha center piece for producing Hip Hop beatz and thatz wha i want to do. Can someone tell me what i should start with or what i should buy if i want to start producing and what do i have to know. thank you

what you really want is the MPC1000, join that together with a 512 mb memory card, and the ram upgrade.

an old keyboard with MIDI out.

an old record player of any quality (as long as it sounds ok, not for scratching till you get $$$) and a preamp for the turntable.

using that setup, you can go and buy old jazz records etc, for like way less than 1$ sample say a bass drum, snare drum, hi hat etc. and chuck it all together.

it all depends on you because when i started out all i wanted was a mpc to but now that i been looking at the asr 10 i wouldnt mind having that and i also been looking at some of the top workstations because i wouldnt mind having something that has everything in one you know like the options to play keys after you lay down the drum patterns and still have the option of sampling

with a work station all you really need is banging drums

Yeah, get used to it now, you'll never stop wanting gear. But always try and make the best of what you have as well as lusting after new toys :)

good lookin for the feedback. YO SAMURAISAM i have a old yahmaha PSr-172 i got for cheap u think that would work when u said a old keyboard? All i would need for it is tha midi Out. and how much more would tha mpc costs if i invested in a 512 mb memory upgrade and a ram upgrade. Also is there any possible way to convert my wav. files from tha computer that i use for fruity loops to my mpc? becaus ei have a couple nice kickz and snares that ppl use. I have no idea how to Dj or wha turtable to buy.. what would b a nice cheap turtable that gez tha job done? n how much would that cost? i know my lil homiee DJ's he could prolly teach me scratchin etc. etc. but how about as far as sampling a record so i could actually create off of it.
Thank you for taking the time out to read my post.

i dunno, personally i have the PSR195, but it doesnt have velocity sensitivity, so its pretty limited, i.e. no volume control whatsoever. either on or off.

the MPC accepts .wav files @44100 hz and at 16 bits in stereo or mono. you probably wont need to convert anything.

any second hand turntable will do: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 41775&rd=1

just keep an eye out, you'd probably find a bargain on one, or contact old folks you know, they always have that shit laying around and never use it.

i got a 256 mb ram upgrade, which is only 128, as thats the way it works, 128 is the max, but if you dont buy akai's expensive quite shitty ram you're looking at paying a bit more. i got that for 40 bucks US.

then for the 512 CF card; perhaps 50-60 bucks or even less.

thing is you dont need the ram upgrade/CF card straight away. i'd say dont get it for amonth or so, then you'd be able to learn everything. then once you've got the hand of it all (which wont take anywhere near a month) you can purchase the upgrades.
