..gettin in late on this one, but anyway....also try using different types of clap sounds.
For mechanical type sh*t anything goes, but if I'm going for more realism, I use no less than three claps. One is the snappy hi-pitch clap like a closed palm clap. The second one is like a regular mid-range clap, like clapping without thinking about it. The third one is an open hand clap with a low tone. I'll put the snappy one ahead of the snare's quant. position, the mid-range one locked on the snare's quant. postion, and the low one slightly after the snare's quant. position (1.2.00 in a four count BTW).
Of course you can add or move the claps around per taste, but this method creates a good live clap feel. The effect is sorta like your clap is a base runner sliding into home plate or sum'n

, anyway, somebody else said they did similar stuff, but don't forget to try experimenting with snaps, crunches, clicks, conga hits, or other percussion to give it more flair or variety. So I hope I ain't lose ya on this one homie just tryin to help
