If you use the individual outs for different tracks and then mix them in your mixer you can have at least three stereo tracks or two stereo/two mono.

I'm with you on track velocity. It's nice & fine to go into your step editor while you're sitting in your studio, you stop the play, alter your velocities, save and play again, but not while on stage. 1 stereo + 4 outs to a mixer might be your only choice on this. I'm bitten by this also. I use outboard effects, with a few mono samples live. I'd like track velocity, with q-slider control...

i post this aswer at my email to the german akai professional support just in case anyone speaks german in here, too:

Hallo,

rough translation:

use the mixer to change the volume of your tracks. (so much for that..)
at the moment the only way to change the program of a midi device (this was my second question) is to switch it in the step sequence mode. you demand to change it in the main screen is already send to the developers at akai japan.

hope my translation was good enough... ;)

well done :)

but the mixer affect the volume of the pads, not the volume of the tracks, or i misunderstood something.

also, these volume settings (in mixer mode) are actually redundant with the volume settings of the pad (in program mode).

i did not get the second question...

I agree that no track velocity is awful. Every other MPC has it right there on the main screen, great fast way to get your levels right.
As there is room on the screen, I am hopeful they will add it on an upate.
I kicked and screamed about this when I first got it, but now I've just learned to live without it.
To me, this missing feature is so much more important than time stretch or auto split, I'm surprised more people aren't asking Akai to add it to the main screen....

Can you write your Akai friend again?
I don't think he got the point.
Maybe he could say something to the people in Japan that write the OS updates.

It's so strange because my 1k saved so many of my old 2k-xl programs (long story... it had to do wtih faulty zip disks, wave and SND file names). And now not having the Track Velocity on each sequencer track is such a draw-back.

I'm really bummed about this, I AM NOT going to change the velocity of each pad (that just doesn't make sense, because it creates a domino effect of messing up the rest of the sequence).

darn
