Hardware vs Software your opinion Please?

im comparing it with what i've used which is all i can do...

Fruity Loops
Dreamstation

thats all I've used. Fruity loops seriously limited me. Even with the piano roll feature. it just didnt do what i could do with hardware. you make valid points, but like the title said in your opinion......i feel you though man everything you've said

this setup ozone (midi controllor, audio card), mpd 16, cubase se, reason 3.0, recycle and a lappy can do what "most" hardware home studio can do at a fraction of the cost. period.



everything fits in this bag. therefore you can take it anywhere with you.

i like the looks of that. see, i used to love software. when i bought my mpc i didnt know how i was gonna do anything without a mouse. im sure you right about somethings but it all boils down to personal preference i guess. how much did all that cost? looks pretty simple

reason - $350
cubase se - $100
recycle - $150
mpd 16/trigger finger - $200
ozone (midi controllor/sound card) - $180
lappy (dont need a top of the line lappy for these software) - $1000

for $1980 you could have this setup.

now, how much would a hardware setup cost to do the same things.

fanton/motif/etc - $1000
mpc2000xl (loaded) - $1700
midi controllor - $150
hardware recorder with cd-r - $1200
cables - $100

total - $4150

i feel i could get the some results (musically) on both these setups but why pay an extra $2000 for hardware. i know the hardware looks nice when you boys come by but the software can get the job done also.

Judging from your software library it would appear you are quite inexperienced....

50 sw programs....unless you're about 50 I doubt you have enough experience to judge all of them....


btw....those boxes would make good fire kindling (make sure the discs are still in the box)

ever heard of a small concept called stability....try attaining it with your wall of wasted money (ie the sw boxes)

stop hating, man. i have forgot more about music than you will ever know. every piece of software i have serves a purpose from bass sound to electic keys to drums to synths to audio recording to chopping to mastering to effects to whatever is needed to make modern music on a pc. i bet i have more hardware than you too. huh?

by system is very stable, rock solid. plus, why should you worry about "MY" wasted money? i quess there is a chance my software cost more than you whole studio. huh?

well, to export to to a PT equipped studio from cubase just export each midi/vsti track to a wave file and burn thems to dvd plus i own mpc2000 with 8 out too but i rather carry a dvd disk to a studio than my mpc.

btw burning files to wav is not saving a mix, its just saving the audio files, but I guess you probaly knew that already huh?????

IM trying to keep analouge alive, and using only hardware samplers, sound modules, drummachines tubes, compressors, Eq.s mixers,pedals, effects processors. things that were designed to make music not resumes. reports and spreadsheets.

damn dude, do you know what the difference is between analog en digital??? an MPC is digital, sound modules are digital, effects processors are digital (unless you have maaaaad money).

hardware VS software is a pointless debate. its how you work with your gear. i like hardware, a friend likes software, and we both make nice music.

i like the limitation of hardware, and the fact that the ADC and DAC are good. if you want good ADC and DAC for computer you are going to spend alot of money, but a computer has no limitation. some peolpe like the touch of hardware, some people the visual aspect of a computer. its a different way of making music. its not because your studio is ALL hardware, your music will sound ALL good!
