How big is the learning curve from the XL to the 4000

I want to get a 4000, but I've heard that the 4000 interface is different than the 2000XL. I don't want to learn the 4000 and not be able to operate the XL if it came down to it.

Not much of a learning curve I went right in found my way around easy if you know your XL it shouldn't be that challenging to you.

Read the manual and if you have experience with a full sampler no problems. If you don`t have experience be patient and learn what you don`t know to get the full potential of the tools you have. As a ex 2XL user I could never go back to an 2XL with all the things I can do now on a 4k. But it took me time to learn what I didn`t know and I`m better for it. No matter how long it takes stick it thru and you want have any regrets. You need understanding and experience. Most users that are comfortable with the 4k have at least a yr on the 4k. But I would say unless you are unemployed with a chance to spent everyday on it and really learn sequence programming, midi controls, sythnesis, and sample manipulation it will take time but if we can do it so can you.

also, read the manual before you even get the mpc. Mainly on the part about multis and parts, and programs-keygroups-drum

Its an easy machine indeed but you have to know your way around. Like any other toy

So if I had extensive experience on an s900 and 2kxl, would you say the transition would be relatively easy????

I've painted my MPC so that it has no numbers or letters on it...I'm that familiar with it, and I've used the 900 since 96....

I just got mine two days ago. I can do all the basic funtions that I had on my 1k. I can chop, sequnce, and make programs, and I love how when you load up some drums the 4k will go the next drum from the last one you entered(time saver fo real). I haven messed to much with the filters and effects yet, but thats for this weekend when I can dig into it. By next month I plan on getting it to track to my AW16G. But so far the learnig curb for what I wanted to do hasn't been that hard.
