Question about programs

I just got my MPC yetserday and I was loading up some programs that came on a sample cd i bought. I'd put down a tight drum beat and them want to load a different program fro a melody or FX or something and when i did the drum beat went away is here a way to switch back and forth or once you load a program do you have to load and assign samples individually?

How much memory do you have? Did you load the sounds in the same bank?

Seems like you might have overwritten the previous sounds.
You gotta pay attention to the loading screen when doing so.
You can CLEAR, ERASE, or ADD to existing programs..

Load 2 programs, Press shift-6 and assign one to drum-1 and the other to drum-2. You can switch back and forth by highlighting drum-1 on the mainscreen and changing it to 2.

yah isnt it that sometimes when you load a new pgm it "bumps" the old one to the next slot?

thats what probably happened. go to the program screen and switch em back. then assign the new track to program two. all your drums will be on 1, new stuff on 2, etc.

Don't you hate it when the DRUMS get switched by accident (or your fingers are just moving to dam quick) on the main screen and you get another DRUM playing out your seq..? Maybe that is what happened..

64 samples = a PROGRAM

PROGRAMS can be interchanged between any of the 4 DRUMS.

MPC2KXL can access ONLY 4 PROGRAMS at any time but can hold more.

All together 256 samples / 4 programs / 4 drums that MPC2kxl can access at one time.

Once you make a seq using example: DRUM1 trk1, then don't change the
drum on that track. To overdub/record different samples from another program use another track. Hope that helps..
