dont get too caught up on minor details, and take breaks to listen to your beats. you can get tunnel visioned on little things and hold you back on the bigger picture.

dont be afraid to make things simple.

to paraphrase KRS-ONE, don't let music be your only source of income, have multiple income streams. When music becomes your "job" it can become a chore to some people. To others, it ruins their creativity....

Think of all your favorite MCs, and think of how much doper they were (in your eyes) before they lost the fire of music being a passion as opposed to "paying the bills".

This doesn't mean give up on the dream of making it in music--it just means diversify your income, and keep your dayjob. Look at Dstruct---aside from a fulltime dayjob, and a full-time music project/label, the nukka even sells T-shirts, Hoodies, dog sweaters, thongs, mixtapes, and sells his beats. He got money coming in from all angles, so it never gets boring and it never becomes a daily chore.

sampling advice: STEREO ---> alot of '70 stuff is panned, when you sample something, listen where all the diff instrument are (L,C,R), convert to mono, that way you can get diff instruments out of one bar...

learn to understand VU-meters and peakmeters, they will help you out alot...

If you have a track wich is not finished, give it a rest for a few weeks and start something new. If the track still sounds great after those two weeks, then finish it!
No need to finish a track immediatly

Dont be affraid to wipe a track you just did. If it sucks, it sucks and you have to delete it! And start all over again.

if you sample, search for sounds you think they suck. You ll be amazed how many sounds will fit

Go crazy!

Try to make a beat without your mpc, synths and samplers.
Listen to others music and jam with it! Just slap your hands on a table, on your knees whereever. Feel the rhythm




Try to make something else than hiphop!!
