my suggestion is to print out every lesson they have there and read it through. while your reading it do the lessons on your piano. it helped me a lot. good luck

get the book "the idiots guide to music theory"
It really set shit straight for me. I mean, i knew about music thoery, chords and all that from other books and websites, but when i read that book, it really made things make sense. I read it twice, and now i think i have a very very good grasp.
Dont expect to understand everything completely the first time. It took me like a year to really let shit sink in to the point where its like second nature.
Music thoery, its like algebra math class. You learn it in middle school, then in highschool you have to take a algebra class. When you get to college you gotta take that shit again. By then, it finally soaks in and becomes easy. Its not that hard, but can be, But the first time your learned it you where like **** this! feel me?
My main problem was that i understood everything as i read it, but I forgot shit cause it all sounded so foriegn

cause then you can read it like a book. Its pretty much complete. I mean, not entirely complete, but its not like you have to search, then go to another webpage to find more.
What ever works for you really, i just found it a nice easy read, plus i can always go back to it as referance. Its also in more "layman terms" ya know? I find the internet isnt as consistantly written.
plus you can use it as a referance for chords and scales.

Those for dummies or idiots books are no joke. They research chit like crazy and get people that really know it to explain it really well, so almost anybody can get it. I've browsed a few and read one, and I am not disappointed. Great crash course woth more info that you can even use, but you'll have it.

dude just sit down and bang some ivory (or plastic probably more appropriately- i got a piano from the 1900's with ivory keys, looks and sounds nice, but you can't even get close to keeping it tuned)
sometimes i'll be playing stuff for my freinds who go to the conservatorium of music here, and they'll be like "oh that chord is wrong"
but i like how it sounds.......
theres something to be said for learning the rules before you can break them, but i think just play around. i found my thinking was more inline with a pentatonic, eastern sound. Which i doubt would have developed if i had gone with tradition teaching.
