el dont take it down, let it breathe like a fine wine. you have built it and the tips will come. hell i dont even have my 60 yet its currently on a boat somewhere between us and uk. believe if i can get into it i'll write some stuff. all i could offer right now is a link to a suitable power transformer, and i havent even tested that yet!

what might be of use is something i was going to post as a separate topic - but i thought i may get mad hate from the USE THE SEARCH crowd...what i'm really interesetd in is everyones workflow. for example

what do you have: 60ii, emax, sp12, pc etc
how do you sample: straight into 60, transfer from recycle to awave on pc via floppy/zip/whatever
how do you mix down: live onto cd burner/track by track into pc for further editing

etc, to see what is possible, what tricks everyone is using, what sounds good, what doesnt, what works, what doesnt

any use you think?

Well, I'm trying to keep it specific to the 60, I could write a good tips book, but I'd rather just have a really dope community contribution thing. I know cats are holding out, I'm puttin useful stuff up there, and I know others got good tips, the point is, the better everybody uses the 60, the better music and the better represented it is, and the more of them survive, with people going through the trouble and cost to fix them etc. And also we each can help each other out. There's a lot of good stuff, most of it is in the manual, some of it is in the archives, but the FAQ can really be a good depository of info for the 60, so in like 10 years som motherfocker might find a 60, then find this floating around, and homie will be styling. I';ve found things like that for some other bits of gear I have and it has helped me a lot.

makign a Paper version and selling it isn't really my ideal, because then it is closed, and it is only me, most likely if cats don't start posting tips on using the 60 (come on Drumatic, get some tips out!!) I'll take out my posts, then you all are left with what yall put up. Of course, it might help if yall would read the tips I dropped, then you might find out something that
I don't know or that could help other cats. One guy was tellin me how he would do tempo changes in songmode, which I've never tried, so I asked him to post it in the FAQ, but maybe he's a bit guarded with those secrets, doesn't want to make it easy.

But If yall go into the search function and see something cool about the 60, copy the text into the FAQ.

Oye Macaco........ I feel your frustration, pa! I wish that I could contribute something meaningful 2 the FAQ. Hopefully, I will be able 2 do so if u leave the damn thing up long enough LOL. As u have seen from the love on this thread, mad headz use and appreciate it. I know I do!

In other news.......... does anyone know the early snare tricc that u hear on a lot of neo soul and jay dee (j-dilla) type beats? I know it's kinda played but i'd still like 2 know how 2 do it. I heard that it was accidental discovery i.e. screw music. If anybody knows how 2 do it, please post 2 the FAQ. Uno

What do you mean by early snare? Describe it and I can probably tell you how to do it.

Let me find and example and I'll post it. I know u would recognize it if u heard it. It's something unique 2 the 3000/60 with the timing correct button.

has anybody ordered disks ftom any of those links? i plan to buy a bunch for a 60 and 1200. does anybody have any comments on service or quality with any of the links?

Nino, are you referring to the note shift function in timing correct? if so, switch the note shift from late to early, if it's not on early already, and adjust the # of clicks til you get the snare hitting a little early the way you're going for... another thing I've noticed about that type of upbeat programming is it sounds like a string of claps/rimshots/snare and the last one you here is dead on. so it all starts early, but at the end you have one of them quantized on the 2 and 4 so it doesn't sound off.

another thing to consider is that maybe they are programming their drums with quantize off so they get that natural drummer feel/timing that sometimes sounds a little early or late...

Anon, I think u r on the right tracc with the timing correct. I will try that and see if it produces the sound I was referring 2. It's really bugging me that I can't find any examples of what I'm talking about. I heard that it was something unique to the 3000/60 that's what made me bring it up in the 1st place. Anon, that was it! I did a few sequences last night and they came out with that early snare timing. I'm still not good with it like I want 2 be but with a little practice i'm sure that I can get some ill results. Once I perfect my approach, I will do a post to the MPC-60 qu'ran on this feature (if no 1 beats me 2 it). Good look on expanding my mind and possibilities. Uno
