:? :?
Ok please bear with me I am a newbie to the MPC.

I have been making music for a while know exclusively using software instruments like Kontakt,Battery, Reason, Cubase ect on a MAC using OsX.

I recently got a MPC-2000xl and want to intergrate it into my setup.
I have a couple of questions about the best way to go about this.

First, is there a way that I can sample into my computer, as I normally do, edit the sound, and transfer that into the MPC-2000xl without the use of any disk transfer. SCSI dump, Sysex or digital ins or outs?

Secondly if the answer is no, then what would be the best way to maximise the use of an MPC in my studio.

Thirdly(is that a word), I have been reading post about using the MPC-2000 to trigger reason and other VSTi's and I have some questions about that.

The reason I am interested in the MPC is because of the groove of the sequecing(rumor?). If I was to trigger vsti's via the mpc through cubase will I still get the groove feel of the MPC? What about Latency?

I am even thinking about this right.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

i got my mpc hooked up to a mixer and then hooked up into my audiophile soundcard in my pc. i sometimes depending if im lazy or not sample from my turntable right into soundforge on my computer then chop the sounds and transfer them on disk. this way works fine for me being that im on a low budget and can't get really complex. so i just keep it simple

I am actually looking for a way to do this without the use of disk
thanks though

Can some provide some info for me..

Thanks

Vulcan mind meld?

what exactly do you have in mind in terms of transfer? wireless?

you pretty much excluded everything.

I wasn't intending to exclude anything. There is a period after disk transfer. ;)
I am asking If SCSI dump, Sysex or digital ins and outs is an option, not trying to exclude them as options. Sorry.

I want to know what are the availble routes I could take.

Thanks

Hey TaskRock;

I'll try to answer best I know.

<<First, is there a way that I can sample into my computer, as I normally do, edit the sound, and transfer that into the MPC-2000xl without the use of any disk transfer. SCSI dump, Sysex or digital ins or outs?>>

No. But, you can do it using WAV files and a zip or floppy disk.

<<Secondly if the answer is no, then what would be the best way to maximise the use of an MPC in my studio.>>

I suggest using MPC Editor or MPCPGMMaker to create your MPC program in your computer and then ship the programs and sound to the MPC via your disk.

<<Thirdly(is that a word), I have been reading post about using the MPC-2000 to trigger reason and other VSTi's and I have some questions about that.>>

You can do a search for that info. You'll need a midi interface. I was doing that same thing yesterday to sample from my VST instruments.

Peace.

You should have been asking these questions before you bought your MPC, not after. The MPC2000xl doesn't really fit in with a computer system that well, it was never really designed with that in mind, hence no SCSI transfer.

Dont get me wrong, you can use it with a computer (I do), but in all honesty, if the only reason you bought it was because of the old 'magical groove' rumour (it's not true BTW), you've basically made an unwise purchase.

I personally cannot see the point of using an MPC to sequence something within a computer, because of latency issues etc. You'd be better off sticking to a well built PC/MAC system to handle everything.

The advantage of the MPC is it works well in a hardware situation, synching up with sound modules, hardware samplers, reliability in live situations etc. Yes you can fire off sounds from a VSTi, but I think it's overkill to do that with an MPC, especially considering the outstanding features avialable from a software sequencer.

Thanks for the reply.

I can understand that and thats pretty much what I figured.

I actually didn't buy the MPC it was a gift so I thought that I would try to make the best use of it.

Right now I'm thinking that I could try to use it as another Instrument and have Cubase as the Master, Iguess.

Thanks

I think you could use the digital ins, but it would just be straight audio that you'd have to sample.

get the mpc editor and use disk, it isn't as bad as you seem to think it is.

Thanks for the help homershines.

I usually load my samples directly into kontakt after I record them into cubase. Then I do all my manipulation. I want to get the MPC into the process but I'm afraid I'm a little hesitant to add another couple of steps to my music making.

I guess I need to know If it would be worth working out. MPC-tutor seems not to think so.
Does anyone use Kontakt and the MPC that could maybe add there take on the situation.

Thanks again
