the mbox comes w/ pro tools le and not 6 right? so in that case, if i decided to go mbox, i would have to get pro tools 6 as well?

Protools LE and Protools M-Powered are basicly the same...

when you buy a mbox you get it together with Protools LE in one package...
if you get a M-audio device, you have to buy the software package..

Fire wire is the way to go. USB 1.0 is to slow, and protools is a resources hog. My M powered set up runs just the same as my buddies 002 rack. I would say that using firewire is more natural to the protools Digidesign Audio Engine. The more you can make the software system think it is running on proprietary hardware I.E. HD/Digi002/Rack the better.

For the mbox heads i got a problem that i just noticed, when im recording say a 4 bar loop from my 1k i usually have a blank bar at the beginning so its now 5 bars, but when it gets to bar 2 which is where the tracks are it picks up early like at 1/4/930 instead of 2/1/000. does anybody no whats going on cause having to move each track is killing me.

word. so when i play my beat from the mbox and i want to lay scratches down on the next track while the beat is playing, the playback will be in real time and my scratches will record on time w/ the beat? in other words, will it all be synchronized after everything is recorded together?
Yes. The recording latency has been fixed with PT6 and up. Prior to 6 you had to nudge overdubbedtracks back something like 54ms.
No lnger is that necc.

Are you syncing PT to MPC? If so HOW? What version of PT?

The biggest problem with protools and the mpc is that you can't sync them at the moment. PT uses MTC and won't recognise Midi Clock and the MPC (1000) only has Midi Clock. So there's no way to to sync multiple passes to get each MPC sequenced element in. This might not be a problem if you just want to record in the beats from the MPC then layer everything else in over the top, but if you're using the multi outs and synths sequenced with the MPC you have to line them up by hand. Pro Tools LE is still great software though, I've got an M-Box and I'm looking at a 002 soon.

That isnt true, Version 6.8 can be synced to the MPC. I have used the midi clock off my mpc to run timing in PT LE

whoa, great news! I guess I'll have to invest in the upgrade. You got good results with mbox?
