Uh, yeah, that's no contradiction, Have you worked at 96k or 192? Lots of high end, lots of things come out too bright. Twelve bit is warm, they have real VCA's in there. If you really want to hear warm though, try 8 bit, it sounds alive.

ok guys for the analog knowers - i went to go pick this beast up today, it is immaculate.. looks brand new - f'in huge i love the eq's and meters

BUT we couldnt get it to PLAY, itd fast forward rewind stop all that, but it wouldnt play.. so he said he would take a look at it and bring it into the audio shop before i bought it so i went home dissapointed mixerless

so when i get home i got a message sayin he got it to play...
i dont know now if i should get it now.. plus when you open the tape cover it clicks and stutters open, i dont know how hard it is to fix those kinda gears ?

Make sure the tape speed is consistant, go back check it out, record something and play it back. make sure it doesnt' slur or anything.

Not sure of what you mean about the tape cover, if it has motors opening it or if it is the tape motor you are talking about. If it is the tape motors buggin out, beware, if it is the tape door motor buggin, no biggie. You can always call that guy at VST and ask him, he seems to be into them enough to love talking to anyone that buys them.

I talked to thte guys at VST. They service the MG's for a flat rate of $250 plus shipping. Call them after you pick-up the MG and get it working right.

Sorry to hear your mixer / recorder wasn't 100% erkl. If you want my opinion (well, even if you don't!)... dont count on that board to be reliable, not the tape machine section anyway. Fair enough if the mixer section is nice and analogue, and you can use it (it has tape sends / returns on it, right?) just use it as a mixer and forget about buying it as a recorder. Offer the guy a price for it as a mixer and see what he says. then hook up your computer / protools / ADAT / wax cylinder to it and use it like that.

OR go nuts, become a boffin, spend all your cash keeping it running, and bask in some analogue warmth

so picked the beast up, he cleaned the tape machine and it works perfect.. the thing is flawless now, not even a scratch i can find.. he even gave me 10 tapes and the remote and a dust cover.. for $450 canadian in the end! booya

now i gotta buy some cables and hook it up to my soundcard...
